Rhumetoid Arthritis, sp?
I don't know if I spelled that correctly. Anyway, my friend's husband's hands and wrists have been swelling for several weeks and now his feet and ankles are, too. Could this be a symptom of RA? He has been to the doctor and had lots of tests and so far they haven't figured it out. One of them mentioned RA as a possibility and I remembered some here saying they have it. Is that a possibility? Can you think of anything else it could be? I'm sure the Dr.s will figure it out eventually but I was just curious because I don't know anything about RA, though I'm well acquainted with OA!

Hi Hazel,
It's not impossible that RA could be involved, but normally, RA begins with the smaller joints, (in fingers and toes, for example), and there is almost always some degree of pain involved.
I experienced some of those effects with my MC, before I started the diet, and in my case, the little fingers and toes were involved, and the pain was severe, especially in my right little finger, (and my elbow). Though I no longer have any active symptoms of arthritis, that joint in my right finger is permamently enlarged and somewhat misaligned, (the finger angles outward from that point on, in the typical RA pattern).
I'm guessing that something else is the problem here. I assume the doctors have checked for, and eliminated any question about congestive heart disease, or insufficient kidney function, which could also cause the problem.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
