Acupuncture
I've been going to acupuncture for almost 2 years for a multitude of reasons; one of them being the symptoms of MC (starting pre diagnosis). I haven't been since before I was diagnosed in April and contacted her to make an appointment. During our discussion I brought up food sensitivities/allergies. She said she could help me with finding out what they are with acupuncture. I know that I've read about it (pretty sure it was on here!) and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it and what success they've had with it. My appointment is September 9th and I'm pretty excited about it. I'll post more about it once I go.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hello Laura
Yes Acupuncture has a means of 'testing' for reactive foods. It is a kineseology type principle.
make sure you take single type ingredients on their own ie wheat flour or butter or eggs.
do not take a food item that is a combo of multiple ingredients ie bread
from memory, i think Kari has done this as well
the results are not as scientific as having the enterlab testing, or MRT testing.
this thread has a bit of discussion about acupuncture with MC

hope this helps

thought on acupuncture
Hi, I am newly diagnosed (end of July) and I have been thinking about acupuncture a lot as an option. I went on vacation in June with my husband, and at that point I had been having a lot of diarreah, etc, but it had not yet reached crisis point. We went and got massages, and the man that did my massage had moved from China, where he practiced acupuncure. While he was giving me a massage he found a spot of really intense pain on my left leg, on the side between my shinbone and calves, about 3-4 inches above my ankle bone. He gave it a deep massage, and it was really excruciating but it felt really good also. In the middle of it, he just blurted out and asked me if I had lots of stomach/digestive problems. It really shocked me. I tried to get more info out of him, but his english was really limited. All he could really tell me that there is a definite relationship.
Haven't looked into it more, but it has really made me think about it. Ask your acupuncturist about it!

in a very timely manner, Linda has posted a thread of allergy testing and desensitisation that she is doing through her naturopath

Wow, what a lot of information to digest! I looked up naturopaths in my area that work on food allergies and the nearest one is about 75 miles away. My acupuncturist said that she would also help me look for one.
As for the acupuncture, I've gone 2x so far - once last Thursday and one just yesterday. I had about 4 needles placed in my abdomen area, 3 in each ear and one on the top of each foot between my big toe and second toe. She also burned some moxa on the needles on my stomach. When I was going through it you could hear my stomach just making some loud rumbling noises! This morning I only had D 2x but in the afternoon it got a bit worse with about 4 additional trips to the bathroom. My acupuncturist also gave me a stick of moxa to use 2x/day in my lower abdomen area.
Since I've only gone twice so far I can't see any dramatic improvement but plan on continuing to go twice a week; it's not something that works overnight. I do feel better emotionally when I go. It has seemed that I've been getting a bit depressed and very irritable and extremely moody. I'm sure that others have felt this way as you just get so tired of feeling sick all the time.
One more thing my acupuncurist brought up was a vitamin/supplement called Standard Process. She gave me some literature on it which I'll look over shortly.
I have an appointment with my GI tomorrow morning and see what he thinks I should do with my medication. I have been losing a lot of hair in the last 2 months and having acne breakouts like I'm a teenager again! I'm thinking that may possilbly be the entocort.
With time and patience I'm hoping to feel better soon!

Laura,
Acne, hair thinning or hair loss, mood changes, irritability, etc. are all listed side effects of Entocort, unfortunately. They don't affect everyone who takes it, but a certain percentage of people have some or all of those issues.

I have found accupuncture can help with lessening my mc symptoms. But you need to find someone who is well versed in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Sadly, one of the best accupunturists I had found - moved, so I went back to the drawing board.
An interesting side note - I had done Tai Chi and that seemed to help lessen my symptoms quite a bit. (Had to stop, because it got too expensive - but thinking of going back - because it was very relaxing, helped my mc symptoms and helped keep me in shape)

If you want a miracle, then be a miracle!
When I was diagnosed with MC, I went to the acupuncturist that I had used for sciatica and back pain and began getting treatments for MC. I was experiencing good days and bad days and finally went to a GI specialist who put me on a Budesonide regimen that called for three 3mg for four weeks, two for four weeks and one for four weeks. Within ONE day I was Norman. But I continued until all the capsules had been taken. I was in good shape for several months and able to eat salads, soup and berries. But one day MC returned and the GI people put me on a one month regimen of Budesonide. I got moderately better but then the old problem came back.
I am beginning to think the acupuncture did better than I had thought and that it was improving my situation to such an extent that the first day on Budesonide completed the process. I have decided to resume acupuncture treatments. My doctor is Chinese and graduated from the top acupuncture school in China. She told me that the course was far, far more intensive than anything taught in the U.S. She has quite a following which includes professional athletes. Based on my previous experience, I believe I can expect to have treatments for six to eight weeks and probably twice a week.
I will post followups.

my guy had done courses in China and Japan, when you first meet him, he doesnt appear that he would be an acupuncturist, he is a blond haired aussie guy, grew up on farm and drives an old ute and goes surfing!!
as i have said above, if it works, it is keeping the inflammation reduced and supporting the immune and importantly keeps you well - then it is worth it!!
look forward to the followups
