Researchers from the Karolinska Institute and Johns Hopkins Children’s Center conducted research that suggests children of women with high levels of antibodies to gluten -- meaning they had sensitivity to it -- have almost a doubled risk of later developing a psychiatric disorder.

"Our research not only underscores the importance of maternal nutrition during pregnancy and its lifelong effects on the offspring, but also suggests one potential cheap and easy way to reduce risk if we were to find further proof that gluten sensitivity exacerbates or drives up schizophrenia risk,"

Pertinent article for me. Thanks, Zizzle. A good friend has bad hypothyroidism, a daughter with vitiligo (whose baby daughter has endocrine issues), and a son who is in and out of psychiatric hospitals. I have long suspected that there is a gluten issue in that family, and have passed this article along. We'll see...

Interesting. My good friend of Irish heritage has Hashimoto's, her 5 yr old daughter has vitiligo, both kids only poop once a week, and it's taken me years to convince her that she might have gluten issues. Of course her celiac bloodwork was negative, so she thinks she's in the clear.
