I have returned with many bits of news!

Post by natythingycolbery »

Hello,

I was thinking of you all the other day, and realised that I missed you all lots, so thought I would pop back in and try to be more regular.

So here is a quick update on my life over the past few months.

My Mental health diagnosis has been changed from just depression to Borderline Personality Disorder complicated by moderate depression, Generalised anxiety disorder and issues with chronic ambivalence! I have recently been discharged from a mental health team after completing some successful therapy. And am coping with these issues without medication.

I started my new diet at the beginning of the week after a couple of months investigation/research into starting it. I did look into seeing a nutritionalist, but waiting lists are too long and I decided to use the brain that is in my head to work on looking into things. I haven't really noticed an improvement yet, apart from I am not as bloated after eating! The toughest thing was having to say goodbye to using my discount at work as nothing is gluten free! I cried a little bit inside! However I have suggested they need to start offering more foods for those with food intolerances as I am getting a bit sick of apologising to customers for not having anything GF!

Also, I have turned this year into the year that I help out charities a ridiculous amount, in June I am hosting a burlesque show for an IBD charity in the UK (Crohn's and Colitis UK), so I am really excited about that. Although exceptionally stressed too! But, they are also a charity that dedicate very little attention to MC so I am starting to bug them about that!

I am also doing a 10k run in York in August for a cancer charity- two of the women I work with have been diagnosed with it, one terminally (although she has been given 10+ years) and the other has only just been diagnosed. I have also put my name forward to run the London Marathon in 2013.... I find out in October if my bid has been successful.

Finally, and much to the horror of my mother, I have started tidying my room properly, and am actually keeping it tidy!

Thus concludes the short story of my life!

It sounds like you have your life in tip-top shape. Great news on getting off the anxiety medication plus you're running now, too!

Keep pestering that bakery for GF foods. We need people like you to look out for us.

You didn't mention school. Are you still attending university?

Hi Naty,

Thanks, it's always good to see a progress report

Good luck with the running,
Tex

Lesley- I intend to stay around now, although I have been known to get distracted by anything and everything!

Gloria- I am still on a gap year from univeristy, I move back to Lincoln around September 15th. I did find out what modules I am doing at univeristy next year recently though, so it is starting to feel very real! I'm doing 3 double semester modules (Shakespeare, Georgian Literature and my Dr Who dissertation) and 2 single semester modules (Science Fiction and Literature, film and gender).

Tex- Thanks for the luck with running, definatley need it! I'm only just managing 2km runs atm, going to start pushing myself a bit further. Altough I am aware that if it gets too much for me I will walk the 10k.

Marliss- I am very much enjoying my life at the moment, I am trying to not let things get to me, which is a big help!

Hi Naty,

Love seeing you back and glad things are going so well.

I understand about the health system there since our son who lived in Barrow-In-Furness and just returned back to the states to stay yesterday, has been under the mental health system for about 2 years. They tried to release him to more advanced housing for his mental condition but he elected to come home. It is a sad situation.

You run girl and if you have to walk so be it!

Love, Maggie

Naty,

Good to see a post from you. Glad to hear you are getting a handle on the mental health issues.

Good luck with the 10k training. I beleive exercise is an important part in our healing process.

Hugs,

Maggie- the NHS is a very odd health system, sometimes they are really quick- took them 8 weeks to go from my first visit with MC symptoms to confirmed diagnosis. Whereas with Mental health stuff, and they therapy they want to give me, it will take at least 12 months to be seen!

Mary- Yeah, I'm finding running helps, when I remember. However I intend to go tomorrow!

Naty
love your work, your bravery and determination is inspiring
:bear:

it would be easy to give in to a crap health system, but to rise above it and move forward is great news.

good luck with the training and the charity work!

I'm having a bit of a wobble with my diet, I am missing potatoes.

But I am happy to report that I have discovered a wide range of 'free from' things in my supermarkets, which means I can get a lot of things that I was missing such as bread and pasta, and chocolate apparently!
