pimples-yuck!
Okay, so I am almost 30 years old and I am starting to break out! It comes and goes and I don't know why. I had such clear skin for a long time and now this. I don't know where it's coming from! I woke up on saturday fine and then by the time I went to bed I had a handful on my chin. I woke up this morning and now a few more on my nose. I had one months ago on my cheekbone and then when I washed my face it got irritated and to this day there is this dark reddish-brown spot under my skin in its spot. And it has been months!
Yuck!

Hi Jenny,
Are you taking budesonide? I know that is one of the side effects. I just started Birth control pills for some hormonal issues and my poor face has at least 25-30 pimples from it. I'm hoping that this clears up after the 1st cycle as I've never experienced anything like it. My husband says I'm going through puberty again @ 43!!

Jenny,
I'm not sure what the cause of your breakouts are--- but I had breakouts in my mid-40's and I'm sure it was a hormonal thing. Anyway, i can tell you that Proactiv worked beautifully, certainly the cleanser and astringent. My skin is sensitive to benzoyl peroxide so I used the step 3 lotion sparingly, only on spots. It did make a difference.
Don't know if it helps but if it gets to be very problematic, I can vouch that this is one product that works.

Carol,
I have been using Proactiv religously since I was about 18. It did wonders for me and I never has a pimple while using it. I stopped using it a few months ago bc I was getting the breakouts and thought that maybe it wasnt working for me anymore. I am using something else now and it's still not working!

Sorry Jenny, Proactiv is all I have in my bag of tricks. if they itch I would think they are allergy related but it didn't sound like it. Hopefully someone else will have another idea.

There's always betamethasone, if you don't mind using a potent glucocorticoid steroid. It will almost surely do the job, but it's both anti-inflammatory and imunosuppressive.

Another really good choice is retin A, it's non steroidal and most docs will give you a prescription for it. Its a derivative of vitamin A and works wonders...

Joe,
Are you aware of research that shows that retinoic acid appears to promote the development of IBDs? Here's a quote from my book (I don't have time to reword it, so I'll post it as a quote):

Here is reference "7" from that quote:Recent research has shown that a metabolite of vitamin A, retinoic acid, together with interleukin-15 (IL-15) in the intestines of patients with celiac disease, may be responsible for generating the inflammation that results in celiac disease.7 Since the problem does not occur if IL-15 is absent, it has been proposed that developing ways to block IL-15 may be an effective approach for preventing and treating gluten sensitivity. Like retinoic acid, isotretinoin is a first-generation retinoid, and it is the active ingredient in the product Accutane and other medications used in the treatment in acne, which have been associated with the development of inflammatory bowel disease.

one word regarding pimples - inflammation
(actually two words - toxic inflammation)
due to the PCOS i get pimples when the hair follicle gets inflammed. I didnt have acne as a teenager, i have had hormonal acne on my chin, cheek, neck since i was about 35 years old
I use masks (that are Vit E/Soy Free) to draw the toxins out of the pores, one is a charcoal based mask and the other is a green clay mask. i use them every 2nd day to keep the acne under control.

toxins from within the skin layers are trying to get out.small papule or pustule; small skin lesions or inflammation of the skin

Gabes,
It's funny you mention PCOS. I have been having a very dull lower left ache. It's so low that it is close to my lower left leg. I called my gyno today and she wants me to have a urine test and an ultra sound. Im not sure if it's a regular ultra sound or vaginal (sorry guys!)
I had an issure with endometriosis when I was about 20 but, after my laporoscopy I seemed fine.
I wonder....

Could be hormonal. I'd like a shot of testosterone right about now, even if it means more pimples. I curse estrogen. I'm breaking out from having to use stupid sunscreen for my autoimmune sun sensitive rash. No matter which product I try (natural ones only), they all clog my pores. I'm starting to walk around with an umbrella!
