Paging Carol

Post by MBombardier »

I just read on FB that Gov. Brownback declared a state of emergency for several counties because of wildfires, and the City of Hays is included. Hoping you and your loved ones are okay, and praying for all affected by the wildfires in Kansas and Colorado.

HI Marliss, we are fine at this point. As you know, any fires we have here would be grass fires (since we have so few trees) and so far they've been able to contain them. I read that farm outbuildings have been lost but no homes yet. Of course the wind blows almost constantly it seems and that causes fire to spread. It's the only place I've lived where semi-trucks blowing over is a reality, expected in fact, several days per year.

The heat is very problematic, drying everything out so fire fuel is everywhere. We've had record high temps- yesterday was 112* and it looks like it's going to stay over 100* for another week. Although it can get hot in Kansas we usually don't get these temps until mid-July and August. So I am concerned the problems will get worse before they get better.

thanks for asking.

Carol
