The fireworks in my neighborhood last night were phenomenal. I did not know that ordinary people could buy professional fireworks. The show across the street probably rivaled the show the city put on at Ft. Vancouver, setting off fireworks on a barge in the Columbia River. I walked down the block and got a 3D show from all the neighbors setting off fireworks. It affected me profoundly, especially after reading the Declaration of Independence with my family. We are blessed to be Americans (those of us who are), and even though there are lots of things wrong with the country right now, it's still the best country in the world. At least in my opinion.

In Colorado we had no fireworks except the ones the city put on - and even many cities cancelled their displays due to the incredibly high fire danger (we currently have some 10 large fires burning in the state). We had one neighbor who set off just a few, but even they gave up, afraid I think of the "zero tolerance" policy among most of the cities in the area. Strange, they still let the fireworks stands set up and sell, but setting off fireworks and even possessing them is illegal, and this year the cops were serious about it.

We sat on the roof of our house and watched the city's display. :)
