Severe Pain?

Post by CNewman »

So- lesson learned NO DAIRY! I couldn't help it, I had a piece of celery with bleu cheese dressing on Monday. I miss cheese, I miss bleu cheese dressing. I figured I was relapsing (or still adjusting- it's only been a few months since I was diagnosed) with D again anyway- so why not?
Well, now I know WHY NOT!
Tuesday and Wednesday were almost unbearable with pain. Spurts of intense, stabbing pain in my lower abdomen. As yesterday progressed, I thought I was doing better. I even got up today and had almost an "empty (not hungry)" feeling in my gut. Yay!
Or not. After a couple hours of work, I had a handful of GF pretzels- and it's back again.

So - obviously- I won't slip like that again. But what if I don't know about something and ingest it? What if I am out- or even home- and there's cross-contamination from something. I talked to the hubby about the Enterolab testing, to make life a little easier, and he said I should get it. But what about these times with severe, intermittent, sharp pain? What do you do? What do you take?

:???:

Thanks...

I just toughed it out, and tried harder to avoid taking chances. Acetaminophen is safe to use, as long as you avoid alcohol while using it. Narcotic-based painkillers can be used, but be very wary about taking them regularly because of the risk of developing a dependency, and the risk of developing an impaction problem.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I'm with Tex. I didn't find anything that relieved the shooting pains, and I get those quite often. I just tough it out. Usually, when I manage to fart a lot, or have a BM it's relieved.
Sorry we have no other advice. Maybe someone else has?

If you are fortunate and some or all of the pain is gas-related (which often includes bloating), you can relieve that by taking Gas-X, which as I understand it is inert (meaning it passes through your system without doing anything except taking care of the gas). I don't take any of the fancy kinds - just the plain, generic stuff.

I recommend taking it as soon as you realize you are having significant pains. As far as I understand it, if that's not the issue, it won't help, but it won't hurt you either.

Other than that, I don't know of anything that helps.
