chia seeds

Post by Martha »

Can chia seeds cause diarrhea like flax seeds can, or are they safer to use?

Martha,

As far as I am aware, most people can handle them OK, but I found this response to a blog about chia seeds:
I was excited about all the good things that were said about them, so I tried chia seeds. I put them in my smoothie for two weeks straight and the whole time I had diarrhea. As soon as I stopped, I went back to normal. I gave them to my mom who used them for a while. She had multiple bowel movements a day, but not diarrhea and stopped because “it wasn’t worth it.”
I’m sure this doesn’t happen to everyone.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
