I'm cured!
I do not meet the criteria for Lymphocytic colitis anymore, but I may have melanosis coli
OK Here is the biopsy report:
------------
1. R Colon BX 3 mucosal samples
2. L Colon BX 5 mucosal samples
3. Rectal BX 4 mucosal samples
Sections taken from this large intestinal serial mucosal biopsy show no architecture distortion. There are increase in number of lymphocytes seen with both surface epithelium and lamina propria however the acute inflamation and surface epithelium damage is not seen. It therefore falls short of diagnosis of lymphocytic colitis. Elsewhere there are golden brown pigment laden macrophages seen within the lamina propria which is suggestive of melanosis coli. Within this material there is no evidence of epithelial dysplasia or malignancy.

I interpretate this that my success with managing my diet (and increasing vit D) has resulted in a reduction of the inflammation. So
Of course, I would expect it to reappear if I ate much of my trigger foods.
The melanosis coli is a new one. They asked if I use laxatives, as it is associated with herbal laxative use. I don't. Never need them. It is generally considered benign, however I did find one interesting study:
CONCLUSION:
There appears to be no association between colorectal cancer and melanosis coli or laxative use. Colorectal adenomas are more frequently found in patients with melanosis coli. Colorectal adenomas do not contain the melanin-like pigmentation. The association of adenomas with melanosis coli can be explained by the ease of detection of even tiny polyps as white spots within a dark-colored colonic mucosa.
So I still think I can celebrate. I did find when I ate dairy to prepar for my colonoscopy that it did not cause D. But a week ago I ate a single corn chip from the wrong plate and had Watery D for 2 days. So
Lyn
Ahh. Here is a study which says melanosis coli is linked with chronic colitis. That makes more sense. Or it would if I had colitis, which of course I don't any more.

Lyn,
All in all, a good report -- apparently you're doing a first rate job of avoiding gluten. You may have developed a tolerance to casein. I don't react to it either, but when I had EnteroLab check a sample last winter, I discovered that I produce casein antibodies (my score was 24, as I recall), so I have cut it back out of my diet, for good, I reckon.
At least a couple of other members have reported melanosis coli, so apparently it does go with colitis. It might be lingering because it's a persistent symptom, even though the cause is no longer present.
Congratulations on a good report.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
