Hi Everyone
I went to the dermatologist yesterday to have her look at a couple of spots. I have gone to her for some time on a regular basis for plaque psoriasis and, as I have mentioned in other posts, my psoriasis has completely gone away since I have been on a g/f, s/f, d/f, e/f diet.
She was very surprised at my newly smooth skin and asked why I thought the psoriasis was gone. I of course replied that I didn't just "think" it was my diet; I knew it. I thought she might argue the point but she said I was the third patient in the last few weeks that said the same thing. She then asked if it was terribly difficult to remain g/f. My answer was that it was easy compared to having to deal with the effects of long-term psoriasis meds or steroids.
So...even though the tail is wagging the dog (mainstream medical profession), at least there may be a ray of hope, although what drug company will ever fund a study on the effects of diet on autoimmune diseases?

Thanks for your post Christine. I have a friend I want to share it with. She has really struggled with psoriasis and other autoimmune conditions. I think she'll find this encouraging.
thanks again,
Carol

Hi Christine,
There are few things more encouraging than discovering another doctor who is willing to listen and learn from the greatest health information resource they will ever have available to them — their patients. Good for her.
Thanks for posting,
Tex

Hello all,
I'll add something to this. Going GF had some interesting benefits for me as well. I had a sort of chronic hay fever for my entire life (my whole family has it) and that pretty much cleared up. I am happy about that one.
Maybe one day we'll get enlightened doctors who'll think outside the box.
Regards,
Monique

It sounds like some of us feel that our mc symptoms are helped by antihistamines. Are you saying that the hay fever cleared up with diet alone? If so, there's another one to add to the growing list.
Carol
I sometimes feel little like I beat my g/f drum as a cure-all but If it were my friend, I would tell her.
Tex
Yes she listened and asked questions but will She recommend a g/f diet to her patients? I dunno.....

Christine,
Yes, that is what I am saying. That the chronic hay fever (I think it's called rhinitis, not sure) cleared up by diet alone. I was constantly pulling at my nose and you'd never see me more than 5-10 minutes without a kleenex in my hands.
A friend told me that her allergies cleared up when she went GF and she doesn't have MC or any GI disorder. So when I went GF I noticed that my allergies cleared up too.
I don't know if we have such thing in the forum but maybe we should have people post (in a dedicated space) what going GF did for them. Let's ask Tex, see what he thinks.

Monique,
That sounds like a good idea. I'll see if I can set up a poll that will provide us with some insight into the additional benefits of avoiding gluten. Setting up the choices may be a little tricky, because these polls will only allow one answer per member, so in order to separate the various benefits, the choices will have to be appropriately worded.
Thank you for the suggestion,
Tex

Tex,
Maybe not a poll if it's tricky and complicated...Maybe as part of the Message Board. You know, first page, right there under announcements etc. A topic called "Share your GF experiences" or "Benefits of going GF for everyone" or something like that. That way we all can read the stories and people can do more than just take a poll. And we can all learn from that and try those things...Just a thought.

Tex,
I think making it anecdotal is more powerful...

I could always tell how good the chocolate was by how many times I sneezed when I ate it! Three sneezes, only three, and it was the good stuff! LOL A light when on for me when I discovered information on mast cells...I don't remember when that was, I'd have to do a search here to locate the original post I made regarding it and I think Tex was the person who put me onto it (no surprise there!). I had been unable to get off entocort even with a g/f, d/f diet. I began to take Benadryl and bingo! Now I'm paleo (I learned that here) and only had one episode, one day, of D and I think it was because I ate something I shouldn't have...it may have been peaches or berries (I couldn't resist) otherwise I'm doing great. I make sure I eat low histamine foods and Benadryl is cheap...I've been without it for about a week and so far so good but I still occasionally have a drippy nose after I eat so I'll get some more and start taking it again.
It's great news to see everyone finding out they are helped with this simple fix.
