haha yea me either.........so its definately not something I'm concerned about trying now while I'm watching foods and gluten. I've even picked them off pizza(when I could eat it) at restaurants with other folks who wanted them on the pizza.
They just don't even look appealing to me. Never could figure how some folks even put them in their martini!!!!

I LOVE olives and olive oil. Don't know how I'd manage my MC without them. Try an olive tapenade first, a dip made of ground up olives. Its almost universally liked, including by my picky 5 yr old. Just make sure it doesn't have lots of preservatives or yellow #5. Otherwise large green olives, pimento stuffed and Greek kalamatas are all good starters. Avoid the oil cured olives...they are an acquired taste. Avoid cheese stuffed, of course. Give them a chance. IMHO, they are a good source of fat and salt. just get decent quality ones.

Although...they are probably considered a high histamine food, and some brands contain sulfites.

I'm with Z! I LOVE olives and olive oil. I like cooking with them. One of my favorites is tilapia baked with olives and tomatoes. Tilapia is out now

Another olive fan here! I love the olive bars with tons of choices! Olives have saved me many times when I needed a quick, hi-cal, convenient snack.

Just a caution. They can be high-histamine. Mary Beth told me that it was safer to eat the oil-cured ones. I just tried them, and they are quite strong in flavor. But good I think. A few go a long way.

Hugs,

Polly

I love olives, but am no longer able to eat them or olive oil. Like Zizzle, I loved eating the tapinade on crackers.

Brandy,
As always make sure you read the labels. One day I decided I would try them and every brand I found had some kind of soy in the ingredients so I passed. I doubt I'll go there now since I'm cutting back on histamine foods. I am missing strawberries.

take care,
Carol

Love olives also. Regular canned black ones are the ones most everyone likes. Kids like to put them on their fingers :) The green and kalamata are vinegar based ( like capers). I love them too, but my husband doesn't. If you want to try some, find a olive bar at a gricery store and only buy a few to try. Like some have said, they are high histamine, so now I am wondering if I should not indulge. The antihistamine is working though. I am not getting light headed any more either! yay.

Leah,

I'm glad you're adapting to the antihistimine. Sometimes we just need to get through the transition period. I stopped using strontium for two years because it caused headaches. When I tried it again, I took one pill instead of two, and eased into two pills a day. It worked because I haven't had any headaches this time.

Love Olives but they hate me. Just do not seem to be able to digest them fully.

Love, Maggie

I remembered a post of Polly's where she substituted olives for popcorn at the movies. Thats my new movie snack. I love all kinds but my current favorite is a can from Trader Joes of pitted green olives that are very mild...really about half way to he standard canned black olive.
