Betaine HCL

Post by DebE13 »

I started taking the betaine hcl and started with the recommended one pill (mine are 400mg) then two, and now three. I've noticed the warm feeling but can't tell if it's bothersome. I'm concerned about creating addtional problems by taking too much but maybe the fact that I can't tell means I'm not overdoing it. Last night was the first time I tried 3 pills and three hours later I could still feel a very small feeling of warmness. Could it possibly last that long or am I overthinking it? I had some burps with taking it but I get that sometimes when I eat anyway. There's been no big change with the D but the returning gurggles have diminished.

Sadly, I had a very bad day yesterday and it makes me wonder if it's related, however I had a similiar experience with l-glutamine. I had a bad day of nausea when I first took it and now relate it to that even though it may not be probolematic at all. I took a two hour trip to a huge craft show and ended up not eating anything all day. I had coffee in the morning and didn't eat until 6 PM that night. I don't travel well and always experience mild motion sickness on longer trips (anything over and hour is a long trip for me) and that on top of an empty stomach set me up for a bad day. It was poor planning on my part and I paid the price for it. I felt totally out of it for the 3 1/2 hours we were there, closed my eyes for entire ride home, and immediately went to bed for 2 1/2 hours when I got home. Then got up to quickly eat before going to my son's football game. I have problems being in loud environments and being around groups of people. The craft show and football game further drained me- it was like being in a sea of noise & activity that became unbearable. I'm still feeling fuzzy this morning but trying to make it "a new day."

I plan to keep up with the 3 pills until I feel something more uncomfortable and see what happens.

No one ever reports on how long the warm feeling should last, but three hours seems like a long time. Still, that's not out of the question, because it certainly takes longer than that to complete the digestion of most meals.

I'm the same way about noisy crowds. I can tolerate the noise from loud machinery all day without any problems, but I have no use for noisy groups of people. There's something about the aural impact of loud voices that's really irritating, and it doesn't take long to get on my nerves big time.

I hope that today is a much better day, but if it isn't, you may need to back off on the Betaine HCL, and try a lower dose for a few meals, to see if that helps.

Hi, I take HCL with my meals. I try to eat five times a day and take the HCL with my bigger meals. In the morning try to eat a protein meal takes lasts for a few hours. I find that when I do not eat properly I breakdown muscle for the protein the body needs for energy. You can research the proteins in foods that are absorbed quickly or last for a few hours. You can find the ones that you can eat without creating a flare. I hope you feel better. Jon

Thanks Jon- I didn't realize different protiens broke down at different rates. I'll have to investigate.

Tex- it's such a hard thing that not many people get. My Dad is the same way and I feel like I understand him so much better now since my noise sensitivities and anti-social tendancies have become much more influential in my day to day life . Sometimes I find simple noises from others, like breathing or eating so irritating. I don't mean to offend anyone but it's like nails on a chalkboard. Some people like to unwind with friends but I find solitude to be rejuvinating. I don't want to be this way but I've spent so much energy trying to fight it and it made me depressed and stressed out. I've finally come to an acceptance that it is part of who I am even if I don't like it.

Saturday wasn't a new day and I spent it in bed - it sure did make me crabby. It was a perfect, sunny fall day and I missed out. I'm taking it as a good lesson in planning for activites no matter what. Sunday and today were much better. I find when I eat just once a day the D gets much better. I can't do this all the time but it was easy since I wasn't feeling well. It made me think of Marliss and her experiment with eating during limited hours of the day.

I'm going back and forth with the 2 or 3 pills. I'm trying hard to feel when it's too much but really can't tell yet.

As one who has been using betaine hcl for 3 years, I started with one pill for about two years. That worked pretty well. Then I went to 2 pills with bigger protein meals. I never went to three, so if you're stomach is sensitive. I'd stick with no more than 2 at a time, maybe even one for a while.

I think the standard dosage on those pills is 600mg, isn't it? That's what the label on mine shows. At that rate, two of these add up to the same dose as 3 of the 400mg pills.

And yes, eating and breathing sounds rankle my nerves, too. LOL.

Mine are 650 mg and I've seen others around that amount, so 600 to 650 are the usual dosages that I've seen.
