canyon bakehouse bread
I just ordered two loaves of Canyon Bakehouse Bread because there was really no where close by to buy some. However, wIth a $10 shipping fee on two loaves, it's a pretty steep price to pay ( $10 loaf) I'm trying the white and caraway ( which is suppose to taste like rye). I'll let you know.

That's sad that you can't find it locally, it's in most of the stores I shop in here that would be considered "higher end" stores and it's in the freezer section. I don't shop at Whole Foods, however, since they contributed to the No on 37 petition in CA on GMO labeling. I do love me a Reuben sandwich, so I'm curious to hear how you like the Rye.

I am able to get Canyon Bakehouse here, also at "upscale" grocery. Here it is on the shelf in the bread section, instead of in the freezer with the Udi's and Rudi's and the rest of the gluten free bakery products. It's not found at the Whole Foods here though. (at least it wasn't when I looked there a while ago)
I thought it rather pricey, but had read some good reviews here on the chat, so I tried it.
I did NOT like it at all, so ended up throwing 1/2 of it away.
(P.S. I don't particularly care for Rudi's bread either, and I thought the CB bread was similar in texture to Rudi's.)
Different strokes for different folks I guess!!

You don't have to buy Canyon Bakehouse at WF, it's becoming pretty mainstream, especially, I'd imagine, where you live. Still think their Raisin bread is damn good, TOASTED, no GF bread is good if it's NOT toasted, IMO.

Even with the great stores where I live I still cannot find it so I ordered directly from them. (2) loaves of caraway, (1) of white, hamburger rolls and the cranberry muffins. Stocking up for our Thanksgiving birding trip for 10 days. Expensive shipping of $15.55 but I wanted it so I paid it.

IMO, nothing helped.
So I truly hope that person(s) who payed nearly $10.00 per loaf to have it shipped will not be as disappointed as I was.

Certainly agree with this statement. Besides toasting, I tried several other approaches with the CB bread also, including making French toast and slathering it with butter and Maple syrup ...no GF bread is good if it's NOT toasted, IMO.

canyon bakehouse...
Leah,
That's a lot of dough ;-) you paid!
Well, I find that ALL of the GF breads out there are bad (sorry) You have to toast them or disguise them so that they are tolerable. And they are also expensive.
I found my solution when I went for Bob's Mills mixes at your local store. I tried the white bread mix and the dark bread mix. The dark bread mix is EXCELLENT. And you get so much more for your money--you get a nice big load instead of the skinny thing you get with Udi;s and others.. All you have to do is mix it with oil and bake it.
The other thing I like is that you can slice it the thickness that you want. And it's fresh and hot. I haven't found ANYTHING out there that matches the texture or quality------assuming that the ingredients that are in those mixes are tolerable to you.
So my friends, look at the ingredients and if you can tolerate them, bake your own bread!
Bon appetit!

I agree w/Monique here about the quality of the bread mixes.

Good idea Monique. Next time i will bake a loaf. I don't even eat bread very much ( I have Udi's in the freezer) About once a week I toast it and put almond butter and apple butter on it. When we went camping, I made french toast out of it with egg and almond milk. It came out pretty good, but you have to let it soak a bit longer than you would white bread.
