Woke up with WD
Hi,
It is just under a week since my surgery. I had let myself hope, hope that I was going to get some of my life back. Then this morning the WD is back. already 6 times. Iam off all the medicines I had been taking to control it (I had actually achieved daily Normans) but have no idea what to do.
Please anyone... am I expecting to much to fast, is this just a reaction to all the antibiotics pumped into me for days, or even from the surgery itself.
Thanks for letting me come here with my sadness.
Hugs,
K

Hi Kitty,
I'm sorry to read that your symptoms are returning.
It's difficult to pinpoint the actual cause of your symptoms, because antibiotics can cause them, and physically handling the intestines (which the surgeon surely did during the surgery), can trigger a mast cell reaction that can cause the symptoms you are having.
Since we're all different, it's impossible to say whether the symptoms will fade away after a few days or weeks, or whether you might be better off to resume taking an anti-inflammatory medication to help get things settled down sooner. Is your PCP generally understanding and helpful? If so, you might ask him or her for their opinion on what you should do under the circumstances.
After my surgery, I used Imodium for a while. I had to stop using it after a few weeks though, because it started causing dizziness, but that's a very rare side effect, I believe.
Please keep us posted.
Hugs,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Kitty,
I had a strangulated hernia caused by childbirth for several years. About 20 years ago I had surgery to repair the hernia. I didn't get MC until 15 years later. I don't think there is a connection to having a hernia and MC.
I suspect that your watery D is a combination of the antibiotics and being off the meds you were using to control your MC. If you were having daily Normans, you will get them again once you are back in your regular routine. You may need to go back on the meds you were using to control your MC, at least for a while.
I hope you heal quickly and get better soon.
Gloria
