Hurricane Sandy - East Coast Board Personnel - STAY SAFE

Post by MaggieRedwings »

It is already hitting in our area and everything is closed. Very heavy rain and high winds. We are expecting the worst to start in about an hour and last for 36-40 hrs of sustained winds at 50-60 MPH and rain of probably 6-10 inches. No work today since we are under state mandate to stay off the roads and expect it to make landfall somewhere about 60 miles from us.

To everyone in the area of the storm, stay inside, stay safe, and my prayers are with you.

Love, Maggie

We are expecting it to get the winds and rain here around noon today. I live about 40 mi NW of Boston. I am hoping to get to the gym before Sandy arrives.

My son lives on the Jersey Shore near Point Pleasant Beach. They are going to get hit pretty hard. He flew out yesterday morning to meet his girlfriend in Florida until Wed. so he'll miss it.

Stay safe everyone who is in her path.

Apparently that storm doesn't realize that it's too late in the year for a hurricane to be causing major problems. I hope it doesn't cause near as much damage as predicted, but so far it appears to be a serious threat.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it loses strength quickly, and doesn't cause many serious power outages. :xfingers:

Please keep us posted, everyone in it's path, if you can.

Love,
Tex

I feel for everyone out there right now. Living on the gulf coast of Florida for eight years, I know what it's like to live through terrible storms---When Hurricane Andrew hit 20 years ago, My premature newborn and I spent over a day cowering in a dark windowless first floor closet of our apartment building with my cat trying to ride it out in there with all the tornadoes spinning off from Andrew. What a path of destruction.

Take cover and hope for the best as my thoughts are with all along the seaboard out there.

Prayers,

Pam

I figure I'm all set. I have a thermos filled with coffee so if I lose power I will still have hot coffee in the morning. Everything else is optional but not coffee. I'm in southern Vermont and although the storm will effect us I am not expecting anything catastrophic, but of course that is the way I felt about Irene and the flooding in my town made the national news, still this shouldn't be so bad.

Hope everyone keeps safe.

Jean I love your attitude.....coffee is life! LOL. (Gabes i need to find a source of Merlo coffee LOL)

Nancy I do hope and pray your son does OK; he, Kitty16 and Polly (probably others) are pretty much getting this storm head on. Best wishes for all for your safety...and coffee ;-)

We just lost power about 10 minutes ago and the wind is really howling now. Of course we lose power around here if someone sneezes a bit too hard LOL. The last reading I saw was sustained winds of 52MPH (83 kph), well that's what generators are for. I'm glad I got mine ready this past weekend.

Take care all, best of wishes for your safety.

You can reach me on the DOD satellite phone at 339-223-6369 at anytime Martha, don't be afraid if your hear a message about a secure line etc.. It's fine.

Thank you for the offer, Joe. My nephew, who is the one who lives in Manchester, just posted on Facebook, so I think he's okay for now.
I'll check back with you if his parents can't get hold of him.

Hi All,

I am OK, but this storm is a doozy! The wind is howling outside (gusts expected up to 80 mph) and raining about an inch an hour. Lucky to still have power.....keeping fingers crossed. This is the first time I can recall the metro and buses closing down. I was worried about losing power mainly because we have an all-electric house, so no toilet during an outage (the well pump runs on electricity). But Joe reminded me this AM that a toilet can be flushed by dumping a bucket of water into the tank. Whew! I can't imagine trying to poop outside in this weather - I'd be blown away - literally. The storm even made the news in Australia - Gabes called me last night to make sure we were OK. Thanks, Gabes. So far, so good!

Love,

Polly

Hi Polly,

It's kind of amazing. You're in Maryland and I'm in Vermont and we are simultaneously being affected by the same storm. Lights still on at my place but things are really just ratcheting up so who knows.

Stay safe. Nice to be among people for whom not being able to flush the toilet it among the most pressing concerns :).

Jean this is a very large storm, it is affecting an area well over a thousand miles (1,700km). I believe they are saying this is the largest such storm in over 100 years....I hope you are relatively unaffected....Nestlé sends her best to Theo.

Martha I forgot it was your Nephew. Certainly if anything does come up you can contact me on the number I left for the satellite phone.

Polly I'm glad your still doing well, I can only imagine the winds being ferocious tonight. Yep filling the toilet tank manually works the same as the normal water filling. Hopefully that will help if needed.

Take care all...and best of wishes.
