Since I can ask literally anything on this wonderful site, because you all have had or have the same situation, I need to ask if anyone can help me with my gas issue. No matter what I eat or when I eat, I have gas and bloating. I am totally GF, DF, SF, no raw veges or fruit. I still get gas. I haven't had an issue with the "D" for 5 days, but still have this issue. Does anyone have a secret about what I can use before going into a social situation and having a meal? I am dating again, this is a strong issue for me and I am so afraid to eat anything.

Hi Bonnie,
Saw your post and since I'm in the dating pool I had to respond. Re: Gas Don't take Beano as it has wheat in it. You can possibly try Simethicone (GasX). The problem with GasX is that it has a lot of dyes and ingredients. I realized several days ago that there is great variation between the store brand simethicone and the GasX brand. The Walgreen brand has 14 ingredients, the GasX brand has more but the interesting thing is that my grocery store brand (Publix) only has 5 ingredients. If you decide to try it I would stay away from Walgreens and check the ingredient lists on CVS, Walmart, Target, your grocery store brands etc and get the one with the least number of ingredients. I find I can take 1 or at most 2 a day--more than that makes things worse (the box says up to 4/day)
Re: Social/dating situations and the gurgling---I found having chicken broth before or during an event really helped minimize gurgling. The best would be homemade. If you have no other choice get the boxed GF pacifica brand or GF Imagine brand. The problems with the boxed broth can be the "natural flavorings" which most likely is soy. In tough work settings I've put chicken broth into a metal coffee type drink holder. It looks to everyone else like I'm drinking coffee but I was really sipping chicken broth which helped settle things down.
Have fun with the dating and it's great you are getting out. I met a lot of nice men in the dating pool.

Well I'm way over the age of dating(lol) but I used to have that problem before CC. I tried the gas-x at work and did not see any relief from it at all. Since my CC and entocort............seems like I hardly have that problem at all. When I was on pepto and fiber(recommended by my EX GI doc) I had it all the time. Sorry this doesn't help much but just sharing my experience with gas-x. I hope you see relief soon.
Cathy
Gas is typically the result of the fermentation of fiber, and/or sugars (carbohydrates) that don't properly digest (because of the inflammation associated with CC). If you eliminate grain from your diet (at least until your gut has sufficient time to heal), that should cut the gas problem way down.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Bonnie,
I am glad to hear that despite the MC you can still get out there and socialize. Dating has got to be my worst fear right now at this stage in the game, so I am happy tp hear you are moving forward. Have you ever tried activated charcoal? I have seen it at Walgreens--- might be of some help.
Cheers,
Pam

I've noticed that since I've been on the Pepto regimen that I barely have much gas. It's been pretty nice. Just one of the lucky ones I suppose. I'm also doing low fiber as well otherwise I may have issues even on the Pepto. I'm still heavy on grains but may have to cut that out once I get off the Pepto.
Good luck. This can be quite an embarrassing disease.
