I will try to be brief. I started getting a rash on my thighs on Sunday Nov.5. Tiny red bumps that were filled with clear fluid and very itchy. This continued on Tues followed by an epsiode of vomiting and diarrhea late that night with flu like symptoms. I have continued through out the week to have random patches of these bumps on my arms and legs. Sometimes the are just small raised bumps without itching. Later in the week this was followed by just all over itching. I have taken Claritin tabs two every twelve hours or one Claritin tab and Benadryl at night. No new soaps or laundry. I have even taken rinsing my clothes after they have been washed to rid them of any residual detergent Diet is stable and well documented, nothing unusual.
I woke up today (Sunday) and found my feet covere with petechiae(tiny pinpoint red dots.......basically tiny hemmorages of the tiny blood vessels. No idea on that?
I am being treate for athletes foot and was prescribed a new cream. I was thinking it might be that but that would cause an allergic reaction. But, who knows.
I was supposed to travel with my husband on a work related trip to Miami beach tommorrow. The petechiae worried me. I called my pcp and was told to go to an urgent care. The on call M.D. told me to go to the Er or urgent care center for blood work to have a platlett count drawn.
Platletts are normal.
Liver enzymes are elevated the rest of the chemestry panal and the Cbc and diff are normal except the MCV(elevated) MCV was elevated two years ago due to a Folic acid defeciency ( I know elevated enymes cause itching)
I have done research and found out the following related to elevated liver enzmyes (related to me)
It can be related to Celiac and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
It can be related to the dysfunction of the Adrenal glands.( Endocort suppresses adrenal gland function)
It is related to alcohol consumption. (I do drink wine)
Concerning the petechiae. The urgent care was unable to do Fibrinogen PT or PTT. They are clueless
Can any of these dots be connected?
I will not be going to Miami as my anxiety level is much too high at the moment.
Btw....... this is the absolute first my stomach is quiet......I have had one scant Bm and have taken no Imodium and just one Endocort.
What is going on?

I would be going back to the ER and asking for meningococcal tests. It does have a history of being underdiagnosed.

Your other half probably should think twice about his travel until you have a definitive all-clear.
Good luck and let us know how you go.

The fact that your colitis symptoms cleared suggests to me you are fighting an infection or a possible autoimmune flare more potent than your colitis. (I may be in the same boat with my skin rash). Do you recall any bug bites or time outdoors? Your symptoms sound like a possible tick-borne infection (ie, Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis, etc). Food poisoning perhaps? (EColi, salmonella, hepatitis A, etc). If it's autoimmune, an ESR test (Sed rate) and ANA would be helpful. With elevated liver enzymes, itching and petechiae, they should screen for autoimmune hepatitis with the anti-Smooth Muscle Antibody test.
I hope it's none of the above!!

Hi Camie,
There are many possibilities, of course, but to me, those red bumps filled with clear fluid remind me of the early stages of dermatitis herpetiformis (DH). DH can present with or without the GI symptoms of celiac disease.
The straining connected with vomiting can result in petechiae, but normally they would appear on the face, if they were due to vomiting. Petechiae on the feet would be more likely due to straining connected with a weight-bearing event, such as lifting heavy weights, or jumping down from a significant height so that upon landing, your feet were subjected to a BP spike. Obviously, if you were taking a blood thinner, that could also cause petechiae.
If your platelet count is normal, then the petechiae issue is probably a benign event. That said, I agree with Zizzle that it might be a good idea to ask your doctor to screen for autoimmune hepatitis, due to your symptoms and your liver enzyme levels.
Please keep us posted.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks for the input.
I live in Pgh Pa and it is now fall and most of the bugs except for an occasional stink bug looking for a winter resort in my home.
@ Tex I did nothing weight bearing or straining that would warrant pechtecie. They are gone today!
I never thought about the anthistamines.
I know I need to schedule followup care, but at the moment I am quite disgusted with medical care and the health system.
I find no answers...........Just tests and copays and the usual MD rhetoric.
Thanks again

Morning Camie,
Totally understand the disgust with the medical care and health system! Hope things are improving and would defintiely go for more tests on this situation.
Feel better and sorry you can't make the trip.
Love, Maggie
