Getting your life back

Post by maestraz »

So, I guess this is a progress report, and an opportunity to offer encouragement to the many newer posters who are in the midst of trying to get things under control, and are maybe struggling and discouraged.

I was dx with LC 2 years ago March, and luckily, along with having a knowledgeable GI doc, found this board shortly after. I have been GF/CF/as SF as possible since then. I did Entocort for a time, and have since then been on a tapering, now very low, dose of balsalazide, which I am hoping to give up in Dec. Things aren't perfect all the time, but they're good enough for me, and I am able to feel that LC is not controlling my life any more, at least 95% of the time.

The winter of 2011, leading up to my LC diagnosis, I was as sick as a dog with the same array of problems that are common to most of us. Tomorrow AM, I will head to LA to hang out with my beautiful new baby granddaughter, born 11/7, for two weeks. I feel entirely confident doing the flight, taking my own food along to eat en route, finding the food I need once I'm there. The difference amazes me, and I credit this confidence to the knowledge, and many

tips and information I found here.

Hi, Suze,

What wonderful progress you've made. And such news about your new grandchild! I'm glad you are confident and back to freedom (as much as we can get it with MC/CC). Enjoy your time in LA.

Lesley, have to see how things go. I will be online, so maybe can check in. But not sure how to PM thru this board.

My daughter and the baby are my priority, and my husband will join me out there on the 17th. We will be there thru the 27th. On the off-family/baby time, we hope to catch up on visiting stuff we didn't have time for on our previous visit. Not ruling out a meeting, just not sure it will work this time.

Just for your reference, my daughter lives near the intersection of Wilshire Blvd/La Brea.
My husband and I have rented a little studio apt. in the Larchmont area.

Suze,

You can send Lesley a PM by clicking on the "pm" button at the bottom of any of her posts. The system will open a message window and after you compose your message, you just click on the "Submit" button, and the PM will be sent to her PM mailbox. It's similar to posting on the board, except that Lesley will be the only one who will receive a notification, and she will be the only one who will ever see the message.

You can also send her an email by clicking on the "email" button at the bottom of any of her posts.

Suze,
Great news and congratulations on your granddaughter. Which NE state do you live in? I live about 40 miles West of Boston.

Have a wonderful trip and let us know how you do upon your return.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the good wishes. As all grandparents know, baby love is a wonderful thing!

@Tex, I'm not seeing a PM button at the bottom of anyone's post. Is that an iPad thing? No time to fool with it now, but will later.

@Nancy, I'm in the Hartford, CT area.

Hi Suze,

 If that problem is unique to iPads I've never heard of it before. In fact, I've never encountered that problem with any kind of operating system. I'm surprised that the system would allow you to post if it wouldn't allow you to see other members' contact information.

It may be due to a corrupt cookie. Try clearing your cookie cache. You can do that by clicking on the link below this forum that says, "Remove cookies set by this forum", and following the onscreen directions. When you finish, be sure that you close all open tabs in your browser. If you leave any of them open, the browser won't clear the cookies.

If that doesn't work, go to the index page (the main page) and locate Lesley's name somewhere, either associated with an old post, or in one of the lists of members who have logged on today, and click on her name, in order to open her profile information. It should have her contact information listed in her profile. If it won't let you see the information there, we may have a perplexing problem on our hands. :headscratch:

Hi Suze,
Thanks for your report. It gives hope to new people every time they hear how one of us have been able to get our lives back to,....." good enough for me..."
If I make it to through the Holidays I'll be posting my own good update. I've been off Entocorte since July but don't want to jump the gun. I still want to see how the "foodie addictive" holidays go.
Best,

You must be doing really well Cory. You've been off it longer than I have! Do you feel good most of the time? Do you find yourself cheating more often? I just had a piece of milk chocolate. Haven't done that in a LONG TIME. I think I will be OK though :) fingers crossed.

GF pie crust. That's my next adventure for the Holiday.
Enjoy!

Tex, DUH! I'm apparently blind. Now that I have the time to look, and am not in a stupor from a LONG cross country travel day, I see the PM button. I was looking for it on the left side, under the location info, not in the actual post area.
