my husband is coming down with a cold, last year he got a cold , gave it to me , I had antibiotics, didnt work got broncitis, then phunomia, sorry spelling, tired today, then asthma, question is how much vit D can I give him to fight it so selfish me dosent get it dont want to overdose him , Beni
Hi Beni,
According to Dr. John Cannell, of the vitamin D council, that would require what's known as a therapeutic dose of vitamin D (IOW, that would be using it as a medication, rather than using it as a supplement). Here is what he recommends for the H1N1 bird flu, for example:
I doubt that him taking the vitamin D will prevent you from getting a cold, because he will still be infections (he just won't be as sick). If you start showing symptoms, you will need to take a similar dose of vitamin D in order to prevent the cold from developing.

While a cold is not as serious as the flu, it would probably require a similar dose to turn it around. The treatment has to begin during the first 2 days after cold symptoms become apparent. If you wait too long, it won't be much help. For a cold, if I were doing it, I would probably take 2,000 IU per kg of body weight for at least 3 or 4 days. You might be able to find the 50,000 IU capsules at a heath food store or pharmacy.Stock your home's pharmacy with several fresh bottles of 50,000 IU capsules of Vitamin D3 (a medicine at this dosage, not a supplement) and if you get this flu, take 2,000 IU per kg of body weight per day for a week. As I weigh 220 pounds, I would take 200,000 IU per day for seven days if I thought I had an infection with a 1918-like influenza virus.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
many thanks for your reply, so lucky to have you at hand, husband always seems to get a cold at the end of a long farming year, worn out I think!!!! it starts in his sinus then ends up on his chest so then he needs antibiotics, unlike some men he never gets "MAN FLU" he isnt a complainer, this year I had him on vit D to avoid this but perhaps not enough, many thanks again Beni
