Acidophilus

Post by Lesley »

For years now I have taken acidophilus when I taken antibiotics to prevent thrush. AND I have eaten buckets of yogurt. And it worked.
Now I have to take antibiotics, am DF and can't eat yogurt. Why did I not think that, given my bouts of oral thrush, I need acidophilus?
I know it's a probiotic and I do take Culturelle (when I remember), but shouldn't I be taking acidophilus? And if so, anyone know what I should take?

I still take this: http://www.metagenics.com/products/a-z- ... Acute-Care
It is vegetarian, gluten and dairy free.

Saccharomyces boulardii (providing 5.5 billion live organisms††)275 mgBifidobacterium lactis HN019Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001
Other Ingredients: Active dried yeast (S. cerevisae var. boulardii, sorbitan monostearate), microcrystalline cellulose, capsule (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, titanium dioxide, and sodium copper chlorophyllin), B. lactis, stearic acid, silica, L. rhamnosus, magnesium stearate

Worked wonders for me.

Lesley,
I may be a bit thick here but if you took it for years and it worked, does that not bring into question being DF? I have obviously missed a fair bit here but thought my observation worth posting. Please note I am not being critical of you being DF - the question is totally genuine and I guess is coming from my own "How come all these years i could eat bread but now it has to be gluten free????). I am still only on Chapter 1!!

Anne,
Good question.
I meant I used to eat buckets of yogurt during a period where I had recurrent UTIs, and BEFORE I was dx'd with MC.
.
I was having GERD problems, and was dx'd with gastroparesis after eating a radioactive omelet and lying on a talbe for two hours courtesy of the hospital. Then I was hospitalized to receive IV antibiotics which caused watery D non stop. 6 months later the GI finally took biopsies during a colonoscopy and dx'd MC.
Once the antibodies are activated there is no going back. One day you are OK, and the next you are really sick.

I had the enterolab tests and emerged sensitive to almost everything (you can see the results in the relevant file Tex has compiled). And I am sensitive to dairy. I haven't eaten it for over a year, except for a couple of squares of dairy milk chocolate.

Thanks Connie. I will look into it!

So, I have to get the acidophilus somewhere else, since I am now having UTIs again

That

I think we all have a bacterial cause here

Post by Stanz »

I think we all have a bacterial cause here that is secondary to a food intolerance, Lesley. Haven't had another UTI since my MD prescribed me a major dose of Cipro that likely then kicked my MC into full blown status in 2006.

I know. I seemed to get way fewer following surgery 3 years ago. Now they are coming again and I need to do what I can to keep them under control.

MAP, still think it's MAP that is my personal history and the cause of what still ails me There us a blood test for it now, patented 8 years ago, they are testing the antibiotic for it now, another 10+ months and we may actually have a cure for the bacterial side of what ails us.
