Not long ago, a study was published by some New Zealand researchers that claimed that extra vitamin D did not provide any benefits for rhinovirus patients, nor did it help to prevent colds or other respiratory viruses. The conclusions of that study seemed suspicious, and sure enough, the results of a recent Swedish study contradict those claims. This was a randomized, double-blind trial, in which 140 immune deficient patients were given daily supplementation of 4,000 IU of vitamin D, or a placebo, for 1 year. The results of the study showed that:
Participants in the vitamin D group had reduced discomfort
Patients requiring treatment with antibiotics during the study period was 63 percent lower in the vitamin D group compared with the placebo group
There were significantly fewer findings of streptococcus aureus, fungal infections, and respiratory infections in the vitamin D group

I would have listed a link to the original research article (it's noted just below the news article), but unfortunately it appears to be in Swedish.

you can speak swedish chef cant you tex????
(from the muppet show)
as we well know in the world of supplements, that cant be patented by big pharma, there will always be research and articles that try to downplay the benefits of things like Vit D
If people start believing that diet and the right supplements can improve health, what wil happen to big pharma????

My husband has even started taking vit D after several colds this year. Fortunately, I had only a mild cold that was just a very runny nose. Actually not too different than what has been the norm for me lately. I used to be the one who was sick all winter taking forever to get over colds and flu.
