Fish Are Not The Only Mislabeled Sources Of Protein

Post by tex »

Hi All,

A few weeks ago mislabeled fish in the U. S. were in the news, but apparently the problem is more widespread than that. This brings back memories of the kangaroo burgers that McDonalds was serving a decade or so ago, here in the U. S.
The Irish food safety watchdog said Tuesday that it had discovered traces of horse and pig DNA in burger products sold by some of the country's biggest supermarkets, including a burger sold by global retailer Tesco that authorities said was made of roughly 30 percent horse.

This doesn't do much to disprove my suspicions that mislabeling and cross-contamination are widespread food industry problems these days.

I heard that this morning followed by an interview with a chef in France who told how tasty horse meat was and how they couldn't keep it very long in his restaurant because everybody wanted to eat it.

I wondered why the media was talking about the merits of horse meat instead of the problem of correct labeling. Who might be paying them???
