I was suprised you responded so quickly as it is with all that's going on there. I feel better after what you said about Bryan/college station area. I just talked to Mike and he said they are getting paid to sit at the Motel and wait til Rita goes thru then they will go in and hook up the generator. I was thinking they were closer than that. How close to Houston are you? We have had alot of evacuee's at our store all this week. Most are just glad to be out of there. I don't think we will see any of the storm here in west Texas (unless it's a little rain) but have you got all your things secured and ready in case? Here's hoping you fare well. I hope there are no fatalities from this storm...but it's likely there may be. Be sure to let us know how you fared....Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Hi Oma,
I'm a litle less than 150 miles from Houston. I doubt the winds will get over about 50 mph in this area. Where Mike is located, he may see tropical storm type winds, at worst.
The traffic fatalities will probably be the main problem, as far as deaths are concerned. The traffic flow is still very high. I thought everyone in the area was out of there by now, but they're still coming.
A few hours ago, a small SUV from Houston crashed into a semi, just south of here, when the driver of the SUV apparently fell asleep. The wreck apparently killed all three occupants.
The returning traffic will probably be worse, because it will probably be moving faster.
Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
My mind is still boggled by the bus that blew up.
This is so awful and I can't seem to tear myself away from the TV. I can only stand to watch for a little while with my breath held and then I have to go outside and breathe.
I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to be in the middle of it.
And poor poor New Orleans. Again!!
Love, Sally

Hi Liz,
Most of them are finding food and shelter in the towns and cities, as they get farther away from the affected area. Every town has signs up, directing evacuees to locations where they can find shelter in that area. Many schools were closed today, because the buildings were full of evacuees, and volunteers assisting them.
Hopefully, they won't all try to go home at the same time.

Wayne

Hi Liz,
I see you found Sally's explanation of the bus explosion in another thread. If I remember correctly, someone mentioned that traffic conditions were so bad, at the time, that it backed up traffic for something like 50 miles, (or was it 100?). It was such an unbelieveable number, that I didn't pay much attention to it, at the time. When traffic is already moving at a snails pace, I guess it doesn't take long for it to stack up for a long, long, way.
