Successful diet changes!

I am one of the ones on here that seems to have a strong gut/chest connection. I just wanted to let you know that I have cut out Dairy, Gluten, Beef, eggs, soy, sugar, and starches from my diet in the past 4 weeks. So far, I have not had one incident of the chest pain and my gut has really settled down.. I have had no D and no gut or chest pains for 3 weeks and the belching has subsided as well!

I don't really know (other than gluten) which of the above foods I have eliminated were causing me problems, but for now, I will live on chicken, fish, turkey, bison, and pork with vegetables for the foreseeable future. I also drink a vegan protein shake (SunWarrior) with Almond milk that seems to be okay and tastes pretty good. I sometimes will have gas after the shake, but taking an enzyme with the shake has helped with that.

I did the pepto bismol for about 2 weeks but I started to get C so I cut back to 2 in the morning and 2 at night, then just stopped. I think it made a real difference in getting me stabilized while waiting for the diet changes to kick in.

I don't think I ever could have believed that diet could make such a difference! :grin:

I'm still having lots of yellow bile with my stool, and often my (soft) stool is basically orange. GI says not to worry about the yellow bile and he thinks the orange stool is the combination of the brown and yellow. I have had my gallbladder removed. I know some people don't worry about color, but it still concerns me...any thoughts out there about this?

Hi,

That's good news that your treatment program is working so well.

I wouldn't worry too much about stool color during a transition stage. Your digestive system is still adjusting as it returns to normal operation, and it may take a while for everything to reach a state of equilibrium. Also, the enzyme that you're taking may possibly be connected with stool color. It's even possible that the vegan protein drink might have something that affects stool color. Beetroot, for example can turn the stool red, so when blended with other influences, that could result in an orange color.

Or, some of the foods you are eating might be the cause of your stool color. For example, all of these foods have been known to cause orange-colored stool for some people:

Carrots
Cilantro
Collard greens
Fresh thyme
Kale
Sweet potatoes
Spinach
Turnip greens
Winter squash

That is great news! Congrats! And wow...you've given up a lot. I have to applaud you giving up the starches....I still can't manage to do that. Luckily, I tolerate them very well but definitely not the healthiest thing to eat.

Pepto aided me quite well also!

Thanks for sharing and hope you continue to be symptom-free for a very long time.

Great news!
I suspect that your protein shake either has sugar or a sugar substitute, Both of which can cause gas. You are doing a great job. I'm glad you are feeling so well :)
