Putting All Your Eggs In This Basket
Hello Friends,
Now that Tex, Leah and others have convinced me that I should be eating eggs, I visited my friend Anne who is a doc (an enlightened one albeit) and discussed the egg issue with her. She doesn't charge for advice since she works at the health food store where I shop.
So here's the scoop.
Buy your eggs at Whole Paycheck she advised but buy PASTURE eggs. They come from chickens who roam freely in pastures and eat all kind of bugs which explains why their yolks are different. Each yolk will be of a different color unlike their city counterparts who eat the same diet and consequently their yolks are uniform.
The idea is that we can restore the intestinal flora in our gut this way.
So, I'll go tomorrow to WF and see if I want to buy eggs or make a mortgage payment Next thing, I'll be chomping on bacon (Lord, save me).
Love,
Monique

Another way to get fresh eggs is your local community co-op. usually you can get eggs much fresher, better tasting but sometimes more expensive. I want to get a couple of chickens but don't have the time to care for them at this time!! Maybe when I retire or go part time.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference.

Another reason for buying "unprocessed" eggs - Tex had found out some time ago that eggs are often coated with soy oil to keep them fresh. I buy mine from a nearby farm, where the chickens roam free. And they ARE far more delicious than eggs from the grocery store.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
My husband and I laughed over this today.
I bought eggs at a local grocer, just because I was there--OK, going to call them out, Stew Leonard's which is in NY/ SW CT. The overdone plastic packaging says, "cage-free, direct from family farms in the heart of Amish country. Each egg was stamped, something like "local eggs." Those eggs were entirely mediocre. Last time I checked, no Amish in CT.
The next dozen eggs were Farmer's Cow, which is a consortium of CT farms. Yolks were bright yellow and eggy, far better.

I have found a free range egg supplier that distributes to my local health food store
the small amount of grain feed they give them is gluten and soy free, and the eggs are not sprayed with soy oil (and hence have a much shorter shelf life)
Eggs are my cheapest form of protein and a fantastic source of B9 and B12. the bit extra you pay for good quality MC friendly eggs is worth it.

From what I've read, cage free and free range are not the same. Cage free can still indicate a confined area whereas free range includes a broader range.

Whole paycheck is . They don't have good eggs. The only ones (at least in our branch and the next one over) that are marked free range come form NZ. How those can be fresh - beyond ME!!
If I I can't get to a farmer's market I buy mine at Trader Joe's. I don't eat eggs as eggs . I LOVE them but have only tried them in baked goods. I seem to manage them like that OK. Since I have no idea what causes me reactions, or even what reactions are in my case, (figure THAT one out!) I figure I might as well give it a try when I can get some really fresh ones.
Enjoy! Follow every one's eggzample, but be eggstra careful. They are eggstraordinary things, those eggs.

Tex, (posted in Going more as well)
Tex-----my egg test failed royally. The incredible edible egg sent me over the edge. I had one scrambled egg on a rice cake and I have been sick since. Going more, nausea, cramps. Home for the last 3 days. Missed out on all my weekend fun :-(
However, I don't believe it was the egg that did it since I have been eating eggs occasionally (never for breakfast though). I believe that it was cashew nuts and cranberries. When I went completely dairy free last week, I had to replace my afternoon snack with something since I couldn't have a yoghurt or fruit. So I bought some raw nuts and I think that's what did it. The day before the egg test I had cramps. i believe nuts are too harsh on us especially if you have them everyday.
So now I am back on juicing and soft foods and took an antihistamine as well this morning since I am nauseated and with cramps.
Isn't this condition a picnic? Soon as you think you've got it under control, it turns around and bites you right in the ...

Monique

Monique,
Well that's a shame, to say the least. You may be right about the nuts, though. I can't even handle the nut butters, so I've finally given up on testing any of them. They're obviously a lost cause for me.
I hope you'll be able to get things back under control soon. Yep, this disease sucks, no question about it. For a so-called "benign" disease, MC is eggsceptionally cruel at times.
Love,
Tex

Tex,
Thanks for that...I am better this afternoon but not good enough to do anything other than be horizontal. Diet today? juiced carrots and apples this am, grits for lunch, banana this afternoon, Ellen de Generes for entertainment and chicken rice for dinner ;-)
I was going to send a friend to get me some almond butter because I need the calories but I just changed my mind after reading your experience with them. Another one bites the dust...

Monique
