It's a Real Pain...

Post by wmonique2 »

Hello friends,

What do we take for pain if NSAIDS are not good for us? I've had lower abdominal pain for 2 weeks. I've tried aleve one day, it worked. Tylenol was so so and is supposed to be better for us.

Care to chime in?

Thanks,

love,

Monique

Hi Monique,

The only other options that I'm aware of are Tramadol, narcotic-based painkillers, or natural analgesics, such as boswellia serrata.

Love,

Re Boswellia: I tried it after being diagnosed and found that it didn't work at levels that were within recommended parameters. I wish I had a dollar for every "magic bullet" I tried over the past 3 years. I wonder what is causing your pain, Monique. Do you think it could be gas? When I'm very uncomfortable, I take 2 gas relief gels. It helps get the gas up or out and, Oh, what a relief it is!!

thanks Sheila,

I've had a flare and the pain if from my spastic colon. I can actually feel it. When I am not in a flare, it usually goes away. When I start having pain, I know that a flare is on its way.I also have pain after BM---it feels like mu colon is working real hard to expel the food.

Monique, that sounds like pain from spasms. Have you tried an anti-spasmotic?

Monique I'm kind of in the same pain relief boat with some 'fun' spinal issues right now. The Tramadol (Ultram) is a good option as its not a narcotic but has similar pain relieving strength to a narcotic...and it's MC friendly. I also have available some of the stronger narcotic based meds and I often will use the Tramadol first.

With MC pain relief options are tough.

Take care

Monique it is a prescription, but is prescribed fairly readily for these types of situations. It's an old medicine and has a good long safe history.

I hope the Tramdol works for you, Monique. I tried the stuff a few years ago for bone pain and could not get out of bed it gave me such vertigo.
I take Levsin for gut spasms. It works fairly well, but it helps if you take it every 12 hours. (I am kind of a lightweight when it comes to drugs). I cannot take it during the day because it causes such blurred vision. I just cannot deal with it and it also dries my eyes out. I take it at night with some Tylenol for the joint pain that I have and am able to get to sleep.
The abdominal pain is just the worst. I imagine the inflammation being so bad that it is making me glow inside. Ugh!

I usually don't have very much pain, but if I do I take a supplement that my Chiro suggested. It's called Formula 303, a natural relaxant. It's for muscle spasm, tension and stress. It's amazing, especially for gut/uterine aches. It's made of Valerian Root, Passiflora and magnesium carbonate. I love it. Great for cramps during your cycle too. And it also helps with sleep!

Also, I adore my corn-filled bean bag. Heat it up in the micro, they lay it on whatever part aches. Heat really can sooth aches.
