Can I take sinus medication?

Post by ChattyMommy »

Well its allerygy time. I didn't know where to post this question. I do take a gluten free generic version of Allegra, but my head has been pounding for 2 days. Is there a sinus medication (gluten free of course) that any of you safely take? I may give in, just as when I usually get one of these, they don't go away until I do take something.

I have a call in now for the Target Brand Up & Up decongestant to see if it contains gluten. I was wondering about the MC end of things (no pun!). I know we are to stay away from ibuprophens.

Thanks so much!

Ah ha! Did a forum search using 'sudafed' rather than 'cold meds' and found my answer (and hopefully relief from this pounding head)

Hi Chatty,

Many of us have found that the best way to treat and/or prevent sinus congestion/infection is by irrigating the sinuses by means of a "Neti Pot". Here are a few old threads where this has been discussed in the past:

My brother used to have clogged up sinuses on a regular basis, and they practically drove him up the wall. I suggested that he ask his pharmacist about a neti pot, and he has been a happy camper ever since — no more sinus problems.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Tex! My husband used one of those a few years back and had good results. I have been avoiding any meds (other than Allegra) due to my LC, but now this sinus headache has caught up with me. I will look into the neti pot as a preventative. Thanks for the links!
