And The Truth Shall Make You Free

Post by tex »

In an unexpected turn of events, the British Journal of Medicine has notified drug companies that have failed to report clinical trials that might have been relevant to the conclusions reached in reports previously submitted for publication in that prestigious journal, that they have 30 days to fess up, and then they have one year to edit their published articles to correct them.
In a new report, the British Journal of Medicine (BMJ) is asking all drug and pharmaceutical companies to send copies of their abandoned or unreported clinical trials within the next 30 days. With British Journal of Medicine having access to this information, and if the information changes original conclusions made, the scientists will have one year to edit their work and resubmit to the journal. If the scientists do not comply with the one year given, BMJ claims it will release the information to the public.
Scientists Must Come Clean About Misreports Within The Next Year: Will Their Confessions Ruin Their Credibility?

Is that awesome or what? It will be interesting to see what kind of response the journal will get, but this holds the promise of finally persuading drug companies to publish honest information for a change, instead of constantly publishing half-truths and promoting false conclusions that were reached by omitting any contradictory data.

Kudos to the BMJ!

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
