SCD Diet--anyone have feedback on it?

Post by mcnomore »

Have you tried it? Recommend it? What about the SCDlifestyle.com website, is it better than BreakingtheViciousCycle.com?

The primary problem with the SCD is that the SCD allows dairy products (yogurt) and most of us are sensitive to casein. If you take away the dairy products from the SCD you effectively have the paleo diet. So why fiddle with modifying the SCD? Why not start with the paleo diet and modify it to suit your needs?

I've heard rumors that the "new" SCD approach eschews casein also, but what's the point? That's still the paleo diet. Why call it a modified SCD when it's really simply the paleo diet in disguise?

Thanks Tex, you mentioned this before, but I couldn't locate it and couldn't remember exactly what you said.

I just began reading the ebook by Jordan and Steve (SCDlifestyle.com) and the author can't do dairy or salicylates so it is written from a dairy-free, salicylate-free perspective.

I will check out the Paleo diet as well.

Just looked at the Paleo diet and I think the book I mentioned above is better because:

1. Saliylates-free emphasis

2. Emphasis on low fiber

3. Emphasis on pureed vegetables and fruits

4. Instructions on how to de-seed vegetables

5. Dairy-free yogurt

6. The guy didn't know how to cook so he gives great and very-detailed instructions.

That's what I noticed so far, but I haven't finished the book yet so I'll add to the list if there are more benefits.

Yes, but virtually all of the things you listed were not part of the original SCD. Those are later adaptations that the authors added, and the adaptations could just as easily have been made to the paleo diet. That's my point. None of those items are virtues of the SCD.

The reason I decided to check it out is that I was lucky enough to email back and forth with Dr. Fine and he twice mentioned I should consider the SCD diet.
