Entocort
The Welchol isn't working, not that i really thought it would.
Entocort says tell your doctor if you have ever had any of the following conditions:
•Any condition that suppresses the immune system
•Cataracts
•Diabetes (or a family history)
•Glaucoma (or a family history)
•High blood pressure
•Liver disease
•Osteoporosis
•Tuberculosis
•Ulcers
Yes, to cataracts. I have osteopenia but I may have had osteroporosis in the past....I can't remember.
I am really in bad shape mentally and physically right now.

Joan,
I doubt that your doctor will be concerned about the cataract or osteoporosis risks, because those are long-term risks, and not a significant factor for short-term use of a corticosteroid.
The primary consideration will be whether or not you want to try it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I don't know, Joan. It seems like a real quality of life thing for you right now. It is overall, a very small dose of a steroid even at 9mg. And it does target just the colon. I hope you will consider it, maybe a few months could get you back to a better place.

Joan, I know where you are at and it sucks. I spent forever tapering off entocort and made it about 32 days before I couldnt tolerate it anymore. I wanted to make the eight week mark so bad and am now taking 6mg/day. I have some other issues going on and I couldnt deal with it all so I am back on. I still feel awful due to possibly thyroid/pituitary issues but at least the gurgling and constant feeling that I had to go is better. I have to wait until September to get answers and needed some relief. I have been on entocort since February of 2012- it is much longer than I have wanted but my body isnt cooperating. Dont feel bad if you need to take something- it may help keep you sane!

Joan - so sorry you're having a rough time. I'm with the others, it might be time for you to give entocort a try. Sending a few hugs your way, hoping that better health is around the corner.

I heartily agree. I HATE to say this, but perhaps find another doctor who will go for it and who wants you to succeed in feeling better.JLH wrote:My DOC doesn't seem like she will let me be on it very long. What's the point of going on it under that circumstance?
But TBH, I myself haven't taken that advice yet, I'm just so sick of healthcare providers/appointments, etc..
e.g, I have a prescription for three months of EC, but I'm planning to purchase more from pharmacies abroad to extend to 6 months if I don't feel like 3 has done it. My doc gave me virtually no tapering plan, and I'm not to see him until February? I guess I'm supposed to figure out how to taper by myself, so I am looking here for advice on tapering.
But I'm nowhere near ready to taper yet.
I am thinking of you and I hope you get this sorted out so you feel better soon.

I tried to go to another doctor in the beginning when my doc gave me a hard time about getting tested with EnteroLab. She didn't want to write an order for EL tests.
I had told DH not to go to her and he found another GI who told me I was already being treated and wouldn't take me.
Then my Doc started listening to me about gluten and MC. I even hugged her at one appointment!

Hi Joan,
I'm so sorry that the Welchol isn't working.
After five years of trying, it's time you had a reprieve from your symptoms. I vote for the Entocort.
If your doctor doesn't prescribe additional Entocort, you can always order it from overseas. I'm considering doing that if my GI doesn't give me a new prescription, or if he insists on another colonoscopy first.
Good luck!
Gloria

Holy cow! I just realized that my yummy GF Enjoy Life cookies are made with rice flour. I never looked since getting my new EL results!
