Thyroid Labs In- I may be SOL

Post by DebE13 »

I have to meet with my endo next Friday to go over all my thyroid stuff but it isn't looking favorable for me. After a bit of confusion I was told my labs are normal, my MRI (for the pituitary) is normal, and I'm awaiting the results of the fine needle aspiration that was done to biopsy three nodules on the thyroid (endo wasn't too concerned but wanted to biopsy to cofirm). I already received a call that I have a referral to a neurologist because I complained of being light-headed/dizzy. I don't believe I will have any success going that route and it will end up the same situation as when I was referred to the rheumatologist. I received a dx of chronic pain syndrome, fybromyalgia, and that I needed more sleep. I was also offered many drugs all of which I turned down.

Am I barking up the wrong tree? I don't really want to have thyroid problems but it seems like once I got a handle on what I need to do to live with my MC (still struggling with that too but better than two years ago) life took a digger due to the fatigue, eye pain, light headedness, sleeping all the time, not sleeping well, and most of the other symptoms on the Stop the Thyroid Madness list. I'm not sure how to present myself anymore- I'm just plain tired. Any suggestions on my labs would be appreciated. I need some plan of attack for my appointment next week. I don't believe I've had my hormone levels checked, may that be the culprit? Menospause?? I'm chasing a ghost when it comes to regaining my get-up-and-go. sigh.

5/5/13 Labs

This is all greek to me, but if anyone sees anything worth mentioning to my endo please comment. I can't argue about my normal numbers but there is something wrong with me.

Well, you can paint me clueless. You have many of the clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism, and yet your lab results appear to be impeccable.

Let's just hope that your endo knows what she or he is doing.

That's not what I wanted to hear! I'm not too hopeful but this endo does not have a God complex and is easy to talk to and listens well. I will have to just hope for the best and make another plan of action when next Friday rolls around. After being angry, tired, and crabby for the past two days its easier today to just be thankful I didn't have to wait until October to hear the news.

Do you think I could still have a thyroid problem or would it be unlikely? Most likely the endo will say he has nothing to offer and send me off to the neurologist. I do want to have a conversation about hormone levels because there has to be something.....

Sure it's possible. Symptoms don't just appear out of thin air. There is a reason for everything, whether there is a test for it or not, and whether we (or our doctors) understand it or not. Back in the good old days (before the TSH test was invented), doctors treated thyroid problems based on a patient's symptoms, and as far as I'm aware, it worked just fine.

DebE, my TSH was within Mayo's range but I still felt like crap. I was a poster child of thyroid symptoms. I am self-medicating with NDT and feeling much better. Deb
