What can I do to make it stop? tips and tricks?

Post by Julie »

Hi everybody,

I'm in a huge flare right now. I've been like this since 3 weeks. I have tried everything.

I take 1 up to 5 immodiums a day, I take triorfix (it takes the fluid out of the stool so that you don't have D anymore), I'm doing my diet just right, ...

It's painful and I'm starting to feel sicker and sicker. I feel nauseaus and my stomach hurts as well. I really can't get sick at work!

I went to the specialist last week. He did a colonoscopy again, I will know the results on Wednesday.

Are there any tips or tricks to make it go away faster?

Thx

Julie

Hi Julie,
I'm so sorry that you are feeling so bad. Have you tried Entocort? A lot of people here have and been very successful. It should certainly calm things down for you. I was as bad as you for several months until I found a good doctor who immediatley prescribed it and what a difference it made. If you do some research here you will find lots of good information regarding Entocort.

I don't know what you are eating, but it looks like you are staying away from all main culprits.

I'm sure a lot of other member will pop in with good information to help you out.

I hope you feel better soon.

Julie,

I'm sorry to see that you're still having a severe reaction. I would be very surprised if the colonoscopy shows anything new.

Have you tried taking an antihistamine? Many members here find them to be very effective when nothing else seems to work. If an antihistamine is going to be effective for you, it should help very quickly. If the first one you try does not seem to help, then you may need to try a different brand.

Hi,

Yes, I have already been on entocort, but I had a reaction to it, and now, I'm afraid of taking it.

Tex : I've never used a antihistamine. I'll try it. Thx!

Julie,
Where do you get triorfix?
Did you get your results from your colonoscopy back yet?

Hi Jenny,

I got a sample of Triorfix and a prescription from my general doctor. Apparantly, we can get Triorfix without a prescription, here in Belgium.

I didn't get the results yet, I will get them on Wednesday.

I am in the same situation. I am going to try the antihistamine. I go to the gastro Dr tomorrow. I am not going to do Entocort yet. I am going to discuss Mesalamnie (brand names Asacol and Pentasa) first. It is an anti-inflammatory. Anyone have feedback on that med?? I also have joint pain all over my body. I've read that intestinal disease can connect to Enteropathic Arthritis. Anyone have feedback on that disease?

Hi Susy,

I have joint pain all over my body too! We are in the exact same situation.

I don't know anything about Mesalamnie. I've never tried it before. All I heard, is that it supresses your immune system. I don't really know if that's a good thing or a bad thing...

Entocort is prescribed most of the time. I just got rid of these meds, so I'm praying that my results will be good. I hope that they don't find LC and that it's just stress.

Good luck, Susy!

Hi Susy,

Welcome to the board. Asacol is the only brand of mesalamine that contains lactose, and most of us who have MC are sensitive to all dairy products, so the other brands of mesalamine usually have a better chance of helping us. The newest brands are Lialda and Aprisa, so they are also options. Some members have had success with Colazal.

Yes, arthritis symptoms are very common with this disease when it is active. Before I changed my diet, my knees were so bad that I sometimes had to use a cane in order to be able to walk. The joints of several fingers on my right hand were swollen and inflamed, and those fingers were growing crooked and twisted. That was about 10 years ago, and after my gut healed, the arthritis went away. As long as I don't slip up with my diet, I remain arthritis-free (and MC-free).

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

Hi Susy,

Tex is couldn't be more right about the joint pain. I was in remission for almost a year, and I didn't have any pain. I could even start exercising again!

But now that the LC is back, I feel the pain all over my body. My knees feel weak and it hurts every time I walk, sit or stand up. My fingers hurt and my ankles feel horrible. I feel like an old woman (and I'm 23 years old!)

Hi everybody,

I seem to have developped a new symptom. It's very embarassing, but I'm going to tell you anyway.

I fart. A lot. And it smells like rotten eggs. I've never had this before. Does Lc cause this too? Or could it be something else?

Thank you.

Hi Jule,

Are you taking an antihistamine? Did this symptom begin after you started taking an antihistamine?

The reason I ask is because antihistamines are known to cause increased gas (because they slow down digestion in the stomach somewhat), and this can cause increased flatus.

If it's really a problem, it's possible to buy activated charcoal filters in the form of liners that prevent such odors from escaping. Here are a couple of examples:

http://www.buyactivatedcharcoal.com/cha ... or_control

http://www.flat-d.com/women.html

Have the antihistamines helped to reduce your D?

Sugars can cause gas, so make sure you aren't taking too much in. ..... so do certain veggies and anything with fiber.

Hi everybody,

I wanted to start taking the antihistamines, but my specialist ordered me to wait because he isn't really certain that it'sn LC. It could also be my gallbladder or pancreas, he said.

If it isn't my gallbladder or pancreas, I will start the antihistamines with or without my specialist.

My new symptom developped this weekend and I'm hoping that it goes away quickly.

Thx for the reply!

Julie,

For some of us, LC causes inflammation of the gallbladder and/or pancreas. Those are common problems among members here. When those members get their LC under control, the gallbladder and/or pancreas problems disappear also.

Here's some information about the connection between gluten sensitivity and gallbladder disease, for example:
