Ancestor with celiac?

Post by Sheila »

I've been working on my family tree on ancestry.com. I discovered my great-grandfather's brother died in 1883 of "inflammation of the bowels". He was 17 years old. This relative is on my mother's side of the family, the source of my celiac genes. Interesting and sad.

I wonder if they knew about appendicitis back then? He was of the age that is most prevalent for it.
