Sure need some advice

Post by Jskaggs »

Good morning,
I have been doing pretty good until yesterday. I don't know if I am in a flare up or if I have a stomach virus. My daughter and her family came for a visit over the weekend. On Sunday she became ill- throwing up and D. Well, last night I became ill too. I had D 13 times between 9 pm and 4 am. And threw up too. Since I have been doing okay on 3 mg of Budesonide daily, Even though my bm's are thread like and usually happen every time I go to the bathroom, I became a little cocky and made some peanut butter cookie balls dipped in Enjoy Life chocolate. Tasted just like Reese's. I was out of natural peanut butter so I used my hubby's Jif. Stupid stupid me! And I also had a gluten free hotdog yesterday. Dumb! So now I am drinking my powerade and my question is should I increase the Budesonide or let things run it's course? Thanks for your help.

Have a great day.

Hi,
Given that your daughter visited and then got sick, and it includes vomiting, I'd suspect a virus. It doesn't sound like what you ate should have given you problems.

I'd stay hydrated and let it run its course. Hope it passes quickly.

Hi Jane,

I agree with Suze. It may become necessary for you to increase your Entocort dosage, because MC flares often tend to become self-perpetuating (if you actually are in an MC flare). But the odds are good that if you have caught a virus, after it runs its course, you will probably be OK.

As Suze said, it's very likely that you caught whatever virus your daughter had, and that is the source of your symptoms. Of course, since a stomach/intestinal virus can cause enteritis (intestinal inflammation), it's possible for such a virus to trigger an MC flare. You might be able to gauge the likelihood that an MC flare is your problem (rather than just lingering virus symptoms), by comparing your situation with how long your daughter remained ill.

Typically, viruses that have a very short incubation period (1 day or slightly over) don't tend to last very long, so you might be better in a day or so. If your symptoms linger much longer than your daughter's did, then you may be in an MC flare.

At least that's the way that I would view the possibilities, if I were in that situation.

Thanks Suze.
I feel just like I did when I had my first flare of cc.
Thank you for your input. This site is so wonderful. I am so glad that it is here.

Thanks Tex.
As always you know just what to say. I sure hope that it is only a virus and I will be back to what ever normal is!

Hope you have a great day.

Good afternoon.

Tex you were right. It seemed to be a virus, but then.....it went into a flare up. This is my first flare up after being dx'd with cc in May. I have upped my Budesonide back to 9 mg's and am taking Imodium like candy.

My husband is having surgery tomorrow morning and I want to be well enough to take care of him. He has always been so good taking care of me. Blast this crappy disease!

Have lost four pounds since Monday. Just can't eat.

Have a good day.

Jane,

I hope you feel better and can take care of your hubby after his surgery. The temporary increase in Budesonide should help.

Jane,

Good luck to both you and your husband tomorrow. The extra budesonide should help you to be able to deal with the extra stress that is caused by the surgery, and I hope that it will begin to help quickly.

Thank you Gloria and Tex.

We are at the hospital. Surgery at 8:00 am. He thinks he will be okay by tonight so he can watch the Ky. Basketball game. Go figure!

Thank you for all of your help. Things seem somewhat better this morning. Just can't eat and I am a little dehydrated. Just have to be better to be of help to him.

You all have a good day.
