Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end.
Hi Jean,
As you are probably aware, those are somewhat typical results for many members of this board, but as you say, not having to avoid eggs is a definite plus. The main difference between your test results and mine are that I'm not sensitive to soy. But as I've mentioned before, I avoid soy anyway, since I don't consider it to be a healthy food.
I've added your results to our list here.
Thanks,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Question....do you think I should expand on this testing? I only did panel A....thinking they may not find anything (ha!) and now I am wondering about other foods. I am down to alternating 1-2 Endocort daily. My weight is stable - down 10lbs but that is fine, my mornings are better with Norman visiting 1-2 time loosely. I am eating rice, potatoes, meats, fish, cooked veg, canned fruits, almonds. I struggle with fatigue and seem restless. I walk two miles several days a week. I find myself kicking myself off the pity pot more frequently than I like and I am wondering if the fatigue is in my head or part of a depression or normal for this stage. I do work 4 days a week, but catch myself doing shallow breathing more than I should. By my standards I am a mess, but I do know that this is my third flare in a year and my new journey has only been a month not eating soy and milk products and searching labels for hidden gluten. I would like some feedback on where I stand - now I will put on my big girl panties and go to work!! Thanks
Jean

Jean,
I first only did the big 4 and got positive results on all of them. I then decided to do the expanded panel of 11 more foods and got positive results there too. I am very glad that I did both panels. It really helped me figure out what to eat and what to avoid. One thing I learned is that both chicken and rice, go to foods for a lot of people here, are a bad choice for me. If you choose to do it now they will still have your sample so at least you will not have to do that part over again.

Jean,
The fatigue is common with MC for most of us, and many of us also have to deal with brain fog that makes concentrating on complex issues (such as mathematics) almost impossible. Memory issues are not uncommon, also. When the inflammation is extensive, the body takes most of our available energy just to try to heal the digestive system. And healing consumes a lot of protein, so that's why we recommend extra protein in the diet, in order to facilitate healing.
After only a month of diet changes, you still have most of your healing ahead of you. You seem to be well on your way though, so your recovery is on track.
If you can justify the extra expense, the Enterolab Panel C tests will definitely make fine-tuning your diet easier, and following the test results should make your recovery journey proceed faster and more reliably. And as Jean said, you can make arrangements for the additional testing with a simple phone call, since they usually keep samples for a few weeks.

Thanks guys. I think I will get the C panel done although I am scared to do it. If I can't eat rice and chicken I may drive to NYC and jump off the Empire State Building (just kidding...I think)...because that is my lunch most days. I make a chicken, rice, carrot and celery soup which tastes yummy to me.
Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end.
That's how I felt, but I realized I would be so excited to be in NY I wouldn't jump. anyway, it's hard to jump off there. One of the bridges. If I can't eat rice and chicken I may drive to NYC and jump off the Empire State Building
Jean is much better than I am being sanguine about the few foods we can eat, and not being able to eat chicken and rice.
Try turkey. i can't do that either so I make lamb and beef stocks for stews etc, and pork stock as a chicken stock substitute. It's not as good, but makes reasonable soups in soup season. Potato leek soup tastes better with pork stock than beef. Veggie soups are great with meat stock, and also with veggie stock.
I made an apple not-quite a crisp because the nut topping didn't crisp. I can't do almonds and all the others are heavier. But it tastes good, and because of the nuts on top it's a protein breakfast food.
I WISH I could do eggs. Easiest high protein breakfast and so versatile.
I have a lot of fatigue. Did before I broke my back and ruptured disks. Now even more so.
They tell me as you heal it gets better, but so far I haven't had periods of healing. I have a C/D cycle, mostly C, and fight it daily, but when I get out of it I go to D. No N in 2 1/2 years. Oh well, moving on!
There are a gazillion recipes in Dee's kitchen. I get into ruts and eat the same all the time, especially since I can't stand to cook since my fall.
If you can tolerate more than I can you have a LOT of choices, and if you can manage to cook up a week's worth of meals and snacks you will be fine.
Thanks Lesley,
I do know I will be fine. Thanks for the encouragement. Maybe the Brroklyn Bridge is a better choice than the Empire State Building LOL.....I walked that last summer....cool
I know that I am in the period of adjustment to a new life style. May hit you up for some soup recipes. Did you get your recipes from Dees for the soups/ stews?
Yes , I do know that I am lucky about the eggs. That is a break.
Have a good weekend.

Sanguine, huh? If only you had known me when. My sister used to reference my "righteous wrath". What I have managed somehow to learn is that temperament and attitude can change. In some meditation instructions I have listened to it says that when thoughts arise during meditation just "don't give them any energy", in other words don't chase them, don't spin a story about them, just let them arise and then fall away. I find this helpful in every day life, to try not to give any energy to the thoughts that arise and have the potential to lead me to places I don't want to go, like the Empire State building or the Brooklyn Bridge. Or like my father used to say "you can't fight city hall". If I can't eat chicken and rice then so be it. I'll figure something else out, not waste my time and energy bemoaning what I can't change. If I am sanguine it has come about through an intentional decision to cultivate that attitude.Lesley wrote: Jean is much better than I am being sanguine about the few foods we can eat, and not being able to eat chicken and rice.
