day 1 of ketotifen and drugged tired LOL!! will this subside

Post by barbiem »

Hi all,

Still on entocort and pancreatic enzymes but added in ketotifen last night at 7 but 1/2 the dosage as I know my body and I am sensitive ! Well by 9 I was drugged tired and it lasted right into the morning and could barely work LOL!! Took a 1/4 of it a noon and was gone for 2 hours sleeping. Will this pass? My stomach is a bit upset from it and the pharmacist gave me just the powder with no fillers so nothing in it to react to. Maybe it's just because it's new. Anyways, although it is nice to finely be able to sleep, this will go away right?????

As far as I'm aware, you may be the only member here who has ever taken ketotifen, so I doubt that you will get any responses that include personal experiences. It's not sold in the U. S.

The side effects listed on the label include drowsiness, weight gain, dry mouth, irritability, and increased nosebleeds. I would expect the side effects to remain the same for as long as you continue to take it. The serious drowsiness is probably why it's not a popular medication, but I'm just guessing.

crap thanks Tex - I just can't take the redi tabs clariton!! which other anti histamine do you recommend without fillers? or to get possibly compounded?

I have heard that it can take about 2 weeks to get used to it. Weird that it is not available in the US!

Quite a few of us take Allegra (fexfenadine).

yeah unfortunately that one causes major heart racing etc. I will just keep trying ketotifen as they say give it some time for your body to adjust.

A compounding pharmacy can make the antihistamine without fillers for you. I had Benadryl compounded, but I still had problems, so it's not a guarantee. I needed a prescription from my doctor first. Each pill cost $1 - not cheap for an OTC medication. Fortunately, Gabes and Joe told me about Claritin RediTabs and I can use them.

So day 2 of ketotifen - i definitely feel differnt - more relaxed and less heart racing after eating. Also the tingly sensation and bump on my gum after eating was not there this morning when i ate my own homemade yogurt. I am still feeling drugged tired but will wait and see if I get used to it. I am supposed to take it throughout the day but that is insane. all I would do is sleep. so I am hoping by just taking it in the evening it will last the rest of the next day so I can eat without any reactions. any thoughts?

just read that gastrocom works as good as ketotifen but without the drowsiness. I may have to try that next as the sleepiness is not good. I get nothing done LOL
