? regarding goat's milk
I had an anti-casein (cow's milk) of 12 on the Entero lab testing. Do you think I would have trouble with using goat's milk to make the SCD 24 hour cultured yogurt?
Hi Nancy,
Unfortunately most people who are sensitive to the casein in cow's milk also react to goat's milk and sheep milk, because the casein is very similar.
If you can find it, camel's milk (I understand there's a camel dairy in California) should be tolerable, and IMO, mare's milk and donkey's milk should be safe, also.
Tex

Some people make it with almond. When I thought I couldn't live without yogurt, I did try commercial coconut yogurt, and goat yogurt. I couldn't tolerate either of them. But the goat milk Reaction was far worse.
Losing yogurt was hard for me, but I managed to get used to living without it.

I don't know where I'll find time to feed and milk a camel. Can I insist that the town exempt the camel from zoning requirements because of my disability? I sure hope camels like millet, beef, taco shells, and coffee. We are required to pick up after our pets in my little suburban neighborhood. Can camels be toilet trained? I've seen donkeys. They are crankier than an older woman trying to wean off of Entocort. No donkey for me. Does iherb.com carry camels? I know they are giving $10 off and free shipping to new customers right now
MC falls under the Americans With Disabilities Act, so if you need a camel in order to maintain your health, technically you should be within your legal rights to demand that the city allow you to keep one. Of course since this constitutes a very special application of the law, I'm sure that you would have to hire an attorney to accomplish that goal — probably a dang good one, because you can be sure that there won't already be any precedents established on this particular issue.

Tex, I have conclusive evidence that you successfully represent concerns that are without established precedents. Advocating for a toilet-trained camel living in a garage would only require that you tweak existing knowledge and skills. Can you add a new discussion topic: Camel Advocacy?
On a more serious note, I understand Nancy's quest to find wholesome, familiar foods. I'm on the same dairy quest. My health food store has So Delicious coconut yogurt. It's pretty good. I also found a cheese-like product that tastes good as a grilled cheese sandwich - Daiya Cheddar Style Slices. It is not great plain but it melts well in a grilled sandwich and has a little cheddar taste. Substitutes don't always replace the calcium found in dairy.

Having camel riding skills has its own benefit. Thruway tolls are calculated based on the number of axles on your vehicle. How many axles does a camel have? Believe it or not I have had camel's milk! In the Bedouin market in Be'er Sheva, Israel. It tastes very similar to goat's milk, which I love in cheese or yogurt. If I can find it in CA I will happily use it for yogurt. Come to think of it - I might bring a camel back from Israel. Would it qualify as a service animal? I wonder if Licorice would have a problem?
