Well, I went for my GI visit armed with my food journal,a folder of research articles and Tex's book. I made the appt. in Jan. when I was so sick.....good thing I didn't die!! Anyway, I told her I couldn't get in to her and so I went to my internist who prescribe Questran and amitriptyline. I showed her the lab results and told her I had been gf/cf/sf since Nov. She did not seem very impressed with all my info. I told her I was off all meds except taking a 1/2 packet of Questran every 2-3 days to keep things bound/solid. She asked if I thought the diet had cured me. I said I am certainly better and she said good....but, "you do know there is no cure." I am not sure she thought the diet made any difference, but she was polite and told me MC just comes and goes....I said I understood, but in the meantime I needed to know how to manage it and she agreed.
She wrote me a script for amitriptyline and Questran for a yr. and said sometimes the side effects of drugs help with other diagnoses and it looks like I hit on something that works for me...she did tell me to expect flares and she thought I could adjust meds accordingly. I asked her if she had heard of any recent research on MC. She said no that the money went for Chron's and UC because they were things that could kill you....I was about to tell her that MC was not a walk in the park, but I let it go.....anyway I got my scripts for a yr for an $85 buck co-pay.

Hi Jean,
Well, all in all that didn't go too badly. While it could have been better, at least you got the scripts you wanted, and you were still friends at the end of the appointment. That seems to be above par for appointments with GI specialists.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
