I tested green beans
After more than 3 years of being gluten, dairy, soy, and legume free, I decided to test green beans. I gave up eating legumes originally based on my reaction to soy, thinking it was better to be safe, and add things back in later.
Saturday and Sunday I ate a few well-cooked green beans. I had D on Sunday morning, and twice on Monday morning. No more D after that, but BMs are still small and thin. But each day since then, I have felt more achy and fatigued. Today was the worst; I just felt exhausted clear down into my bones. That is exactly my soy reaction: some diarrhea, and several days of severe fatigue, and sleepiness.
My first thought is, the green bean experiment was an epic fail. But actually, it wasn't. I didn't get the result I wanted, but I got a clear answer that I can't eat green beans. It's disappointing, but I can eat other vegetables, like broccoli, squash, carrots, and spinach, so it's not like I'm not getting any veggies.
I have to admit that I'm surprised that I had such a strong reaction to the beans.

Soy No1 trigger club member here too...
and as you mentioned hard to believe that a few small serves of beans could have such a big impact on our whole body for a few days.
Thanks for the reminder of why I stick to my safe eating plan..

Martha,
I'm kind of surprised at the severity of your reaction also, especially after 3 years of healing. That reaction didn't leave any room for doubt.
Thanks for sharing such useful information.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Maggie, it's interesting to me that you can eat baked beans and hummus, but not green beans. I thought the green beans would be the most innocuous of the bunch, so when I reacted to them, I figured garbanzos, and dried beans would be worse.
But this gives me hope. Maybe one of these days I'll test something else. Not real soon though!!
