New LC diagnosis! AnD erosive gastritis?Coconut intolerance?
Hey everyone! I'm new here and just got my diagnosis a few days ago. I'm trying to wrap my brain around all of this! I have lymphocytic colitis and also was told a high gluten sensitivity and chronic erosive gastritis in the stomach and Antrum. Anyone else have this other condition? My main complaint right now is bloAting and foul smelling gas- lots of it-- I know it's related to food but currently I am eating only turkey, bison, cooked squash, cooked green beans, and some cucumber and avocado. I do use mustard. If I eat one thing off of this- I have so much painful gas and am up all night and (tmi) it smells horribke. Unfortunately I was doing great before with nuts and coconht and light fruit but now I can't even tolerate coconut! I have been paleo for about 3 years- and when feeling good in was able to "cheat" with a gluten free item- (such as a rice based treat etc)- I'm getting super frustrated and am worried about weight gain on budesonide and constipation. Currently I do have D but only once or twice a day in the morning. The rest of the day I sort of feel like I have C... Anyway- the gastritis? The coconut? :(. It's been about 4 months since I have been super strict on the eliminations and I don't seem to be better. Thanks all! So glad there's other like me out there!
Hi,
Welcome to our internet family. The gas and bad odors are part of the MC symptoms, IOW, they're the result of poor digestion caused by all the inflammation in our intestines. Those symptoms will fade away as you get the inflammation under control.
It takes a long time for the gut to heal, but the dietary changes are the only way to stop the inflammation. While some of us see improvements in our symptoms sooner, most of us see significant improvement in 6 months to a year, so at 4 months, it's not surprising that you would not yet be in remission. Your efforts should soon bring some benefits, and once you start feeling better, all the hard work will begin to pay off.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Welcome Toritagg,
You've come to the right place, there is a great group of people here.
I am just beginning to get control of my diet and am on Uceris (another steroid)
I noticed cucumber on your list, assuming raw. I cannot tolerate any raw vegetables or fruits other than avocado & bananas. Also cucumber gave me bad gas & heartburn before I was diagnosed mc. All vegetables need to be peeled, seeded and overcooked.
I worry about getting enough vitamins without whole grains and raw fruits & vegetables. I do eat one avocado & one banana every day, if possible as both need to be eaten at their peak of ripeness, otherwise they cause the bid D as well.

Hi Toritagg and
It is not unusual for MCers (LC, CC, ME, etc.) to have inflammation anywhere along the GI tract........stomach (gastritis), esophagitis, gall bladder (cholecystitis), etc. Your gastritis should improve as your MC improves. If you have been taking PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) to counteract stomach acidity, please be aware that they have been implicated as a cause of MC.
As noted above, any raw fruits/veggies as well as nuts and legumes (green beans) may not be tolerated when in an active flare.
Feel free to ask any questions or rant and rave. We DO understand!

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Welcome to our MC family Toritagg, sorry that you are having a difficult MC journey.
I found this website April 1st & the folks here with their experience and suggestions have given me my life back. Take note that TMI rarely is a problem here.lol. Have you tried subbing out the bison. I have read an article about bison that indicates it is high in sulfur and may instigate foul gas.mustard also contains sulfur and can act as laxative. Is fish an option for you? I find it easier to digest than the red meat. I am ok with banana but keep in mind that green banana may cause constipation and ripe banana may cause or increase diarrhea. I am diabetic so rarely eat fruit. I cannot eat any raw veg at this time. I eat well cooked veg with no seeds & no skin. I tolerate white rice well. NO spices. I bake, BBQ or steam everything. Nothing fried. I also only drink water. Hang in there and try tweeking the diet in minute amounts to see how you react. Eliminate one item for a week to see if you have change in symptoms. I keep a very detailed diary that has helped me track diet & reactions. At one time I too was down to WD 2x in morning then eliminated egg and voila.. No more WD. Sometimes it can be just one offender.
Everyone has an individual MC Journey. Everyone on this site has gone thru some form of MC as you are and we are all here to support each other in whatever way we can. Best wishes on your MC journey!

Welcome! You have already gotten great advice. I see that your diet is already very limited, but keep in mind that if you find the right foods for you that can lead to healing, then down the road, you will probably be able to add things back into your diet.
Over two years ago ( when dx with MC) I went on Entocort and did the elimination diet at the same time. It worked wonders for me ( no side effects). it took 6 months to slowly wean off the drug, but I have never had to go back to it and even though I remain gluten, dairy, and soy free, I have been able to add many foods back in. This is a long process, so hang in there.
you might want to buy Tex's book on MC. It is a great source of info. Just click on the picture of it in the upper right hand corner of this page to take you to Amazon.

Wow. If is sooo amazing that there are people dealing with this out there!!!! I have dealt with this since childhood and to finally have an answer and people dealing with the same food issues etc. Thank you all!!!!!! I am hoping my strict diet will help soon... Going back to a "normal" paleo diet sound like heaven at this point!!! If I could just use coconut flour or nuts or eggs again!!! Even honey! Right now none of it agrees with me. Anyone else have coconut issues?
Hello Toritagg
I think we are twin sons of different mothers. I have many of your symptoms - with the bloating being a relatively new one for me. I also alternate between D and C, when formerly, I was only D. I can only echo what the others have already told you, and since I have not been 100% compliant to my diet, I cannot offer you any personal words of wisdom. But listen to what the others have said and become religious about compliance to proper diet. The MC component is not understood by the medical community. This board is the right place to be.
