Hi everyone-
I have been reading old posts like crazy for the past few days because I am in a flare out of nowhere and it boggles my mind. I have a question about antihistamines....I've tried Claritin and Allegra a few times and they don't seem to do much for me. I was going to try Zantac but I thought that those were not good for MC? Or is that just the PPI acid reducers? Mornings are awful right now with WD, the rest of the day is pretty much okay other than the fatigue, gut noises, generally not feeling well and pain under my right rib. Oh the joy!

Not sure about Zantac, I use Allegra currently, but think I will go back to Zyrtec because it seemed to help me more.
I can relate to the morning thing, I spent 4 months with that before I was diagnosed. Mine would seem like gallons and usually would take at least 3 trips to the bathroom. Many times in the middle of the night, if not then first thing when I woke up. Usually I would be ok afterward for the rest of the day.

Robin,
You are correct that the H2 antihistamines can cause D for some of us. But on the other hand, some of us have found that not only do they not cause us to react, but when the H1 antihistamines don't seem to help, the addition of (or the substitution of) an H2 antihistamine can help to bring dramatic relief, especially if excess histamine in the stomach is contributing to the symptoms.
Unfortunately, there's no way to reliably predict whether or not they will help, so the only way to determine whether they will help is to try them.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
