What they are really saying here is not that there aren't diets out there that have proved helpful for people with IBD's but that there are no "evidence based" diets
"IBD patients are demanding it, but at the moment doctors don’t have any evidence-based dietary guidelines to recommend"
Evidence based does not mean any old kind of evidence but the kind produced by well-funded scientists and given the official stamp of approval by the scientific community, ie published in a peer reviewed journal. Lot's of patients look beyond what their doctors recommend, find something that works for them (this forum and Tex's book being good example of that) and then don't demand any dietary advice from their doctors.

Hi Jean,
Oh, I totally understand what they mean. The problem is that the so-called experts don't even believe that there is a correlation between diet and bowel disease. They don't look for evidence. My GI doc told me "eat everything". Imagine that! It's that kind of mind-set that we have to deal with. It's those who suffer from it that are looking for solutions (as you pointed out).

Monique,
Maybe not so much asleep as blind, like someone who has had a stroke and not only loses perception of one whole side of their body but doesn't know that they have lost that perception. Oliver Sacks has a story about a man who kept finding someone's leg in his bed and then tried to push it off the bed. Since it was his leg he landed on the floor. Unfortunately when it is a doctor who can not see any connection between diet and bowel disease it is not the doctor but the patient who lands up on the floor (or should that be in the toilet?) when the doctor pushes all thought of diet out of his brain.
It is always bad enough when a doctor doesn't know how to help someone but at least espousing ignorance is honest. When they profess blatantly wrong and harmful advice, like diet has nothing to do with bowel disease, it seems to me to be unconscionable. I am so glad that I can think for myself so that I do not have to rely on doctors for things they know nothing about.

Seriously, they should get Tex's book!
After following the IBD-AID, all (100%) patients were able to discontinue at least one of their prior IBD medications, and all patients had symptom reduction including bowel frequency.
