Can someone explain histamine issues?
I have recently been diagnosed with LC... I have inflammation in my stomach, small intestine and large intestine.... I keep a very strict and limited diet like most of you- and have major issues with bloating, horribke gas and daily D. I keep reading about histamine issues? I am super confused on this. Can anyone explain? How do I know if high histamine foods are not good for me etc? Thanks!
Good morning, and welcome to this group.
If you scroll down the MC Forum index page, you will see a category specifically about mast cell issues. It's a good place to start. There is also Tex's book, in the upper right hand corner of the page.
I also have mast cell issues, and I find that if I react to histamine-containing foods, it will happen more quickly than, for example, gluten. I will also have lots of gut noise. I will also sometimes react with flushing of the cheeks, or itching.
When I figured out that it was an issue for me, I started taking a daily anti-histamine, and have had good results.

Toritagg,
Here's a link to the information that Suze mentioned. The first post in the thread at the link below contains 4 links that lead to short articles that should answer enough of your questions to at least get you up and running on the subject. And the articles list references where you can find much more detailed information on mast cells and histamine issues.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I also have histamine issues. You didn't mention how long you have been on your restricted diet and what that diet is, but healing the gut takes a long time. I found out about my histamine issues after i had already been "healing" for a year. I kept wondering why my once a day BMs were still soft. Then I took an Allegra. The next day's BM was normal. So I did it again…. same result. It was the last piece of the puzzle for me. I now take one Allegra in the am and a Benadryl in the pm. The thing is if you are still having a lot of bloating, gas, etc… then I don't know if taking just one pill will give you an answer. I know that it is safe to take more then one, so maybe you would get some answers if you took a larger dose to "test" it…… There is also a possibility that you are still eating something that you shouldn't.
Good luck
Leah
