Bird Show, couldn't resist...

Post by Jean »

I was bad. The friend I went to a bird show with yesterday had an African Grey (Timneh) for sale. He is completely wild and may even be an import (no band). He didn't bond with her hen. He and I seemed to bond while at the show, and guess what, I bought a nice used cage and brought him home, on a trial basis.

Zoey, my female, is infatuated. He hasn't taken his eyes off of her either. He's having trouble settling in, just now (5 pm) ate something. He hadn't eaten since yesterday morning, except for a little apple. I was afraid I'd have to tube feed him.

He's my new challenge. I'm curious to see if he can be tamed at all. I never expect cuddling, but maybe a step up. I never intended to breed Zoey, but...

Polly, if the love affair continues, I may have a baby for you in a year or two...

Jean, Jean, Jean,

I'm afraid there's just no hope for you, is there. LOL.

Oh my - another Grey has entered the Potty People Parade! Do you have any idea how old he is? I wonder if he'll become a chatterbox once he becomes used to his new surroundings and has gotten used to being a "pet". And then I wonder if that's necessarily a good thing, LOL! I was trying to read some articles tonight and, of course, whenever my Grey talks to me I make sure I respond and reply, and this darned fool bird had me yacking and talking for an hour straight to where I was getting nowhere with my reading! I finally started "requesting nicely" that Benny-Ben please be quiet for a little while and perhaps go down to his dish and eat something, and soon I was shouting at him to SHUT UP for a little while and to give it a rest! So what did I get? A bird that was shouting back at me! My husband came up from the basement to see what all the yelling was about, and couldn't believe he was trying to negotiate a truce between his wife and her bird! These animals are just too incredibly funny. Don't worry - within a few minutes we were kissing and making up, and then he wouldn't stop asking for a kiss, so I had to stop reading and keep going back to the cage to give him kisses. Needless to say, the reading will have to wait.
Good luck with him - I hope he realizes what a lucky bird he is!

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!
