Nortriptylin?

Post by nerdhume »

Would really like to get off the Nortriptyline. It is the only prescription I currently take, hallelujah I have been able to get off all the other ones.
Would like advice on whether to stop it or not, and if so do I need to taper?

I don't know whether or not you should stop the nortriptyline. I guess it depends on why you are taking it and what it is doing for you. I do know that it is a tricyclic antidepressant and like all antidepressants you need to wean off it slowly. Going cold turkey is likely to result in very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Of course the smaller the dose you are taking the easier it should be and the less the withdrawal.

I am taking 50 mg at bedtime. It was prescribed by my GI as an antispasmodic to help with the cramps and urgency. I think it's considered the 2nd generation after Amitriptyline. I'm thinking maybe I should just leave well enough alone. Just wondering if others on the board had managed with just the diet.

I don't have any advice on the nortiptyline but what great news that you're continuing to do well off all the other meds!
