Is Hyperparathyroidism misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia

“Hyperparathyroidism is often misdiagnosed because its symptoms are vague and similar to other medical conditions,” Dr. Larian explained. “Those who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia may actually be suffering from primary hyperparathyroidism. Recognizing that the conditions have similar symptoms is an important step.”
the only hiccup - the current testing protocol for Thyroid issues does not include the right information for doctors to make an accurate diagnosis. Relying on TSH levels alone is not going to improve the amount of correct Dx.
:sigh:

I was dx fibro several years ago....only treated with pain meds which didn't completely control the pain. The pain is completely gone now that I am on restricted diet.
The term 'fibro' seems to be used for several different ailments. It means 'muscle pain' which is a symptom and not a disease. Drs need to find the cause of the pain, not just treat the symptoms. Much like MC and many other diseases.
Recognizing that the conditions have similar symptoms is an important step.
That IMO is like saying a cough and pneumonia have similar symptoms...yes they do, but 'cough' IS a symptom and not a disease in and of itself.
