Has anyone ever used activated charcoal for gas/bloating? If so, what were your results?

Yep
ages ago, back in 2001.

knowing what I know now, it helps, but wont resolve certain types of inflammation/gas.

it has the ability to 'absorb gas', it doesnt treat the root cause of the inflammation/gas as other nutrients/minerals do. (does that make sense)

Linda,
Now comes the fun part....

Ideally we need to figure out what ingredient/ingredients are causing the bloat/gas.

Does it happen every night? Not after any other meals??
What med, supp, ingredients are you having of a night??
If it has only started in past couple of weeks, what med, supp or food did you start in the last 3 months?

Every med, supp, food needs the right balance of acid and synergising nutrients/co factors to break down and be absorbed properly. Bloat and gas occurs when something is not fully digested. Pinpoint which item(s), then research what it needs to be processed properly and go from there...

Digestion at the best of times is a delicate chemistry process. With mc and inflammation, it makes it even more delicate and sensitive.

Eg, meals high in both iron and zinc don't go so well. They both degrade the absorption of each other.
Any one taking iron and zinc supps, needs to have them separately at least 6 hours apart.

Hi Gabes,

I think I bloat as the day goes on so it's more noticeable in the evening. But, there are times that it starts right after breakfast and it continues through the day.

I only take betaine HCL & Vit D, and 1/2 Allegra daily. I do not tolerate the inert ingredients in any other supplement at this time.

I am eating squashes & carrots, meats, coconut, sunflower seed butter, pecans, banana, blueberry, & a small amount of cocoa nibs, and a cup of decaf coffee.

Should I take one food at a time out of my diet and see what happens?

Thanks so much!!!
Linda :)

Let me research the list above a bit first before you make changes.

When I was first Dx'd, I couldn't have carrot and cauliflower in the same meal, now I am fine with them.
If it starts at breakfast that is the clue...

Can you list what you have, from when you get up til mid morning, in order with time
Include water intake and when the Bm happens.

Eg something like this
6am. Water
6.30am decaf coffee
6.45am breakfast... What you have
7.15am Vit D3, Allegra with water

Feel free to Email me if you want to take this research mission offline

Linda,

Something that came to mind when I saw your list of foods was the FODMAP diet. One of my FODMAP lists has the following on the "be careful" list: coconut, cocoa powder, nuts, seeds and their butters and underripe bananas. Just a thought!

Thanks, Donna!

I reacted to all 11 foods on Enterolab. My 1+ foods were potato, cashews, & walnuts....but maybe I eat too many nuts. I just don't have many choices in foods as I am grain free, too..... :(
