I need your help again. Is Ultram safe to take with LC?
I began experiencing side effects from the Oxycodone around the 3rd week of July. Dizziness, depression, muscle and bone pain.
I have been trying to wean myself off of it. I was only taking 2.5mg 3 times a day, but I can't believe how miserable the withdrawal effects are hitting me.

Yes, as far as I'm aware, Ultram (Tramadol HCL) has not been found to cause any MC issues. I'm sorry to hear that Oxycodone has been causing problems, and I hope that the Ultram will bring you some relief.

I'm so grateful you're still up. I used to take UltramER, but due to the LC, I wasn't absorbing it.
So, I was hoping I could take Ultram. I have to take the brand name, because the generic caused severe leg pain, and strange nightmares.
Thank you, Tex, I'll be so happy to be off the Oxycodone. Although, it's a shame, because it really did relieve my back pain.

Ultram and diarrhea
I have been struggling to find answers to my issues since a flare up last July that hasn’t ended, yet. I have been journaling for my new GI. I restricted my diet to the point it was pretty obvious it really wasn’t my diet. My GI had me stop taking Nexium after the biopsy confirmation of LC and CC. I stopped Cymbalta, which I think actually kicked off this flare when I started it in July. I was taking Tramadol 300mg/day and was at 9mg budesonide for a second course. My GI had mentioned she did not like Tramadol, but I don’t see her until a Friday 2/16, so I went to my PCP and asked for a different pain medication and to stop the Tramadol. Took some discussion as the CRNP didn’t know me and my history, but I left with a script for Norco 5/325 mg. Two days after stopping the Tramadol I no longer had diarrhea. Just soft almost formed bm’s. My gut feels better and I feel like eating. I still had stomach pain, having endoscopy in Valentines Day to confirm ulcers, but even that has improved.
It has been four days and no diarrhea still. I had a delicious angus burger on a gf bun last night for dinner with no problem. I ate some Greek yogurt for lunch, a little gas, and tonight wonderful homemade gf pizza with real cheese and spinach. I went from 9mg to 6mg of budesonide today.
Diarrhea is a potential side effect of Tramadol, which I was taking for pain and because it used to constipate me. My research shows Ultram/Tramadol is a synthetic codeine analogue, Tramadol has central analgesic properties with effects similar to opioids, such as morphine and codeine, acting on specific opioid receptors. Used as a narcotic analgesic for severe pain, it can be addictive and weakly inhibits norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake. (NCI04) This is from the NIH.
I posted in this thread because Tex had mentioned he hadn’t seen any issues with Tramadol and wanted to add mine. I have a history of complications/infections/side effects that only occur in 1-2% of the population, but they have to happen to somebody to be listed.
. Would I avoid a Tramadol as an option for pain management/constipating effect in fear of this side effect, no. But, if all other factors have been eliminated I would certainly consider not taking it. I was on a daily as needed dose, but took it everyday.
