turnip and rutabaga?

I know that many of us avoid the brassica (broccoli, etc.) family. Turnips and rutabagas an kohlrabi are technically in this food family.

Has anyone found that they are sensitive to these veggies? I happen to really like them roasted or well cooked and mashed. And I have several dozen of each ready to harvest in the garden...

I occasionally ate small helpings of broccoli and turnip greens when I was recovering with no apparent problems (other than a little gas).

Hi Hopeful,

I've had no problems with turnips and rutabagas. Usually I mix them with white potatoes and mash them as I'm not crazy about the turnip taste or rutabaga taste. I use a mix of about 70% T/R to 30% white potatoes and you still get good potato flavor. The positive about T and R is that they are not nightshades. I have no problem with T and R greens. My new method thanks to another poster is to really over boil the greens then saute them with onion, garlic and EVOO (sometimes one minced anchovie) or I'll make them southern style.
I've also had T and R roasted.

I've had kohlrabi raw....peel off the skin, fine dice a small amount on a small butter lettuce salad. (Note to newbies....avoid this.)

How do you cook kohlrabi? I've never thought to cook it.

Actually, I've never cooked kohlrabi either but it's in the same food family and I figured somebody like it!
